July 29, 2015With the college football season less than two months away, the Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to repeat as both Big Ten Champions and National Champions. On Monday, Big Ten Media members voted for their preseason awards, which were dominated by the scarlet and gray.
Defensive end Joey Bosa, who was the 2014 Defensive Player of the Year, was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the upcoming season. Projected by many to be the top overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft (if he decides to forgo his senior season), Bosa has lived up to the hype since stepping foot in Columbus. He received 37 of the possible 38 first place votes for preseason DPOY.
The All-American led the Big Ten in tackles for loss (21) and quarterback sacks (13.5), while ranking 14th in the country in tackles for loss and 10th in sacks during the 2014 season.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott, who made a name for himself during three must-win games last season, was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Against Wisconsin (Big Ten Championship), Alabama (Sugar Bowl/National Semifinal), and Oregon (National Championship), Elliott rushed for 696 yards and eight touchdowns.
In his sophomore season, Elliott compiled 1,878 yards on the ground, which was the second-highest single season total in school history, trailing only Eddie George.
With Bosa and Elliott leading the way, Ohio State is expected to be double-digit favorites in every regular season game. This, along with the fact that the Buckeyes will be the top ranked team in the country and seeking their back-to-back College Football Playoff Championship, should give their fans a lot to look forward to come fall.

Pre-season awards a 50 cents won’t even get you a cup of coffee. But these and an autographed jersey will get you a tattoo, your coach fired, and a 5-year suspension!
On a more serious note, the greatest statistic for Zeke last year: In the entire post-season, against what should have been his toughest opposition all year, he did not have a single carry for a loss of yards. Not one.
I’m actually ready for some college football. I’m anxious/curious to see if with the light shining so bright on them if the Buckeyes can be the juggernauts predicted.
Man was I wrong on Elliott and I gladly admit it. Kid just got better and stronger as season progressed. I hope he comes out and tears defenses up.
Ah, yes. I recall our conversation about the RBs before last year. Glad I ended up being right! Bucks should have 2 Heisman front-runners this year: Zeke and “OSU QB.”
