Rumors of discord between Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer over staff member’s release
July 21, 2015Are the Mets eying up Ryan Raburn and David Murphy?
July 21, 2015Duke Johnson was the 77th overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft and is apparently none too pleased with his initial rating in EA Sports’ Madden 16. The third-round selection of the Cleveland Browns is an electrifying option out of the backfield thanks to his ability to both run the ball and catch passes, but as the video above shows, he may have to prove himself first before he can get a rating in the low 80s.
Players’ skill sets are sliced and diced, with the company giving individual ratings based on things like speed, agility, strength and pass-catching. While we do not know where Johnson officially ranks, EA Sports did release the top 10 rookies for this coming season, a group led by Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper with an 82 overall (the very rating Johnson felt he would get).
- Amari Cooper, WR, OAK – 82 OVR
- Jameis Winston, QB, TB – 81 OVR
- Todd Gurley, RB, STL – 80 OVR
- Leonard Williams, DL, NYJ – 80 OVR
- Brandon Scherff, OL, WAS – 80 OVR
- Dante Fowler Jr., DE, JAX – 79 OVR
- Melvin Gordon, RB, SD – 78 OVR
- Kevin White, WR, CHI – 78 OVR
- Marcus Mariota, QB, TEN – 78 OVR
- Vic Beasley Jr., DE, ATL – 77 OVR
Madden is typically tougher on rookies, but allows for quick adjustment based on performance. For comparison purposes, Ben Tate was given an 83 heading into the 2014 season with Terrance West (69) and Isaiah Crowell (67) trailing behind. Tate finished the season with a 75, while both West and Crowell moved up to a 74.
Johnson’s ranking will be revealed within the next few weeks. After that, it’ll be up to him to prove the kind folks at EA Sports wrong.

Melvin Gordon will be dynamite in SD book it!
You like him more than Todd Gurley or Amari Cooper? I have a rookie draft here soon for my dynasty league and right now I’m leaning one of those two with the second overall pick.
Duke, then you better rock all those screen passes you’re going to see…
I like all three Cooper is a WR though but he landed in a perfect spot for him. It will be interesting to see how he does with Carr. I do like Gordon more then Gurley but again both ended up in perfect places for their respective talent.
I’m excited to see what he can bring to a tremendously talented RB corps. I’m thinking third down back and special teams will be his chance to make an impact.
