C-Cap Recap: A Thoroughly Defeated Tribe
July 27, 2015Revisiting Delly Fever with the best post-Game 3 tweets
July 27, 2015The pieces continue to fall into place. After being rumored to have been looking for a $4 million-per-year deal in the free agent market, Matthew Dellavedova will reportedly return to Cleveland on what looks to be a $1.2 million contract, the team’s qualifying offer. ESPN.com’s Dave McMenamin was first to report this news.
Dellavedova will likely assume the role of third point guard on the Cavs with the team recently signing Mo Williams to a two-year, $4.3 million deal. What Williams provides offensively, Dellavedova will be able to do in the way of defense and the occasional three-pointer. He also brings along experience in playing with a unit that will be largely similar to that of the 2014-15 Eastern Conference Champions.
In 67 games last season, Dellavedova averaged 4.8 points and 3.0 assists while shooting nearly 41 percent from three-point range. In the postseason, filling in for an injured Kyrie Irving through the NBA Finals, Dellavedova averaged 7.2 points and 2.7 assists. A fan favorite due to his style of play, Delly made just $816,482 last season, making his new deal a bit of a raise. ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reports that hope for Dellavedova is to play out this season and then secure a more lucrative, multi-year offer next offseason when the salary cap increases and more than 20 teams have space.
The team recently signed James Jones to a one year deal and appears to be still in talks with forward Tristan Thompson and guard J.R. Smith.

I am much more comfortable with him as 3rd option than 2nd. Does Harris have higher ceiling?
Eh for one more year they can carry him for less then $2M. Meanwhile he can go back to carrying luggage for his teammates.
Harris will be the other guy on the bench near the end. But seriously I’m very interested in seeing what David Blatt learned from his rookie season as far as minutes played go. I’m hoping we see more of this new upgraded bench during the season.
Though I am guessing they will win many games, hopefully they play smart and ensure they are ready for playoffs like you said. Doesnt matter too much if you have home court advantage because you still play 3 out of 6 games in your arena.
Good move for all. He’s still very young and if he can just develop something reliable offensively – hitting open jumpers being the best candidate – I think he’s going to be in the league 10 years. And in 4 years with the new TV contract money even a veteran minimum will set this guy up for a life on the Aussie beaches.
I’m glad. Wasn’t quite ready to say g’day to the legend.
It will be interesting to see what they do as far as home court personally I feel it’s worth playing for you want four games in your place regardless. I am expecting the team to pick up where they left off against the Celtics in round 1 with the strength and tenacity they developed from the rest of the playoffs. Add in Varejao’s return plus the additions of Williams and Jefferson lots of positives. Of course that will probably have to be tempered by having a realistic opinion on KI, K-Love and even Varejao all coming off serious season ending injuries. Blatt will have plenty to juggle.
Full disclosure: I was sweating bullets. Not only am I the leader of the Matthew Dellavedova fan club, but my wife just bought me a Delly shirsey for my birthday without knowing that he might not re-sign with the Cavs.
After watching Harris struggle to make an impact in summer league, I’m of the opinion that he’s not long for the NBA. He’s probably a little more athletic than Delly, but he just doesn’t give the effort. He isn’t the defender and leader on the floor that Delly is, so I think Harris goes the way of the ‘Gody.
I’ll add this too… with Mo backing up Irving at point guard, I hope we get to see Delly off the ball when he’s in the game. I still think he can be an above-average rotation player if he’s not fumbling his way through a pick-n-roll. I guess it depends on whether the Cavs are able to bring J.R. Smith back. If Smith is back, Delly really won’t see any minutes until either Irving or Mo get hurt. If Smith signs for another team, there should be a handful of minutes available off-ball for Delly each game.
Delly will be on the bench even deeper when JR comes to his senses. KI, Mo, Shump, JR and finally Delly.

For $1.2M it’s a great job!

Realist son, period!
He’ll play plenty this year. If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s Cavs injuries.

Seriously Cheryl, you need to quit blowin up my spot.
I can’t wait until the Cavs play the Celtics again and beat them by 65 points. Keeping their starters in the game with 5 minutes to play and up 50.
that was really funny.
Ummm….not sure the Cavs will be willing to risk their starters in a late-game blowout against the Celtics again.
