July 7, 2015LeBron James proved that you can come home against all sorts of strange odds. That makes the latest bit of Cavaliers news almost pedestrian, but it sure is a lot of fun. Mo Williams appears to be following in James’ footsteps just one season later as he’s reportedly spurning several other contenders in signing a two-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers for $4.3 million.
Who else would have the news other than Adrian Wojnarowski?
Mo Williams agreed to a two-year, $4.3M deal with Cleveland, including a player option, league sources tell Yahoo.

Williams had considered deals with San Antonio, Dallas and New Orleans before committing to a reunion with the Cavaliers and LeBron James.

Our own Jacob provides some additional salary-related details.
Cavs taxpayer MLE is $3.376M. This has to be part of it. RT @WojYahooNBA: Mo Williams agreed to a two-year, $4.3M deal with Cleveland.

What’s most surprising is that Mo Williams only played two seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers in his first stint with the team. It sure felt like Mo was around longer than that, but that probably speaks more to how much fun Cavs fans had as they watched a team that was capable of winning more than 60 games in each of the two seasons that Williams contributed three point buckets alongside James.
As for the future with the Cavaliers, we’ve already covered that ground back when Williams’ return was just a rumor.
Williams averaged 12.2 points with the Minnesota Timberwolves prior to being move to Charlotte where he averaged 17.2 points per game in place of an injured Kemba Walker. The long-time guard fits the bill of a floor-spacing play-maker, a term used frequently by general manager David Griffin on Thursday afternoon. And if any city digs nostalgia, it’s Cleveland.
Whether Cleveland digs nostalgia or not, it appears there’s some happening regardless.
Cleveland welcomes home Mo Williams as it searches for its first title in a long time. That story is well worn by this point, so we won’t bore you with it again. Another piece to the puzzle might have just been slotted with the signing of a backup point guard who can score. In that respect, this could be much more than just nostalgic come playoff time next season.
He’s coming home.
I'm coming home!!!!! #cavsnation #cityilove #questforaring

I suppose this means Sybil won’t be back.
Welcome home, Mogotti.
Huge signing. Glad he is back.
Huge? I’m not going out on that limb I would have preferred other guys myself but if he knows his role and can provide anything as KI’s backup I’ll be okay.
Cavs still need another SG right now I’m hoping for Jamal Crawford but will settle for one year of Joe Johnson. If neither are possible and JR sees that he made a mistake by opting out and lowers his salary expectations then bring him back,
Based on Irving’s injury history and the offensive limitations of Dellevadova, I consider it a big deal as far as guards go.
FOG RAW in da house!!!!

They should have him walk out to center court for the opener with Kyrie Irving, and then just say, “You’re welcome” and drop the mic.
I guess it makes sense. We’re on a mission from God, after all.

Until Delonte West comes back, I will never be satisfied. https://exiledclevelander.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/1250257507-delonteshirt3.jpg
This was the move I was hoping the Cavs would make with their taxpayer MLE. You can’t get much for $3.4M per year (or in this case even less than that), but you can get a backup point guard who can handle the ball, set up offense, run pick-n-roll, and hit threes. That was all I wanted with our MLE. Welcome home Dogfather!
Next up, Vickers!
Mo is probably the best of the rest I just preferred other backups it just didn’t play out. Now if either Jamal Crawford or Joe Johnson is added I’d consider that huge.
You can combine part or all of that MLE with other things however. They used part of it not all for Mo which leads me to believe Griffin has something else coming. At least I hope so anyways.
That would be amazing.
I agree given what little flexibility the Cavs had entering free agency if they can walk away with Mo Williams and Jamal Crawford or Joe Johnson I’m perfectly fine. I would not count out James Jones returning either. Same with Delly.
“Is that Russell Branyan’s music??”
