July 9, 2015The Cleveland Cavaliers are wasting little time now that the NBA’s moratorium period has ended. LeBron James reportedly agreed to a contract to stay in Cleveland earlier today, and now 25-year-old shooting guard Iman Shumpert has officially signed a four-year, $40 million contract with the Cavs.
The Cavs did not officially reveal the terms of the deal per league and team policy, but the “4 for 40” figures were reported when Shumpert and the team agreed to terms on July 1. Per those reports, Shump’s deal comes with a player option in its final year.
“Iman is a versatile, two-way player who embodies much of the grit, determination and defense-first mentality our group became identified by,” Cavs GM David Griffin said in a team press release. “He is evolving as a playmaker on both ends and his impact on our group was enormous throughout our Finals run.”
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound guard averaged 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 24.2 minutes per game for the Cavs in 2014-15. He played in 38 regular season games with the Cavs after being acquired in a trade with the New York Knicks.
Shumpert documented the signing on his Instagram page. (His new hairstyle is a matter for another day.)
