August 20, 2015WFNY Roundtable: What We’re Watching For in Browns-Bills
August 20, 2015In just over a week, the college football season will (finally) be here with the Ohio State Buckeyes having plenty to look forward to. In recently updated Heisman Trophy odds, the Scarlet and Gray have three players who are amongst the favorites: Running back Ezekiel Elliott (5/1), quarterbacks J.T. Barrett (9/1) and Cardale Jones (14/1), and quarterback-turned-wide receiver Braxton Miller (33/1).
Elliott is the clear-cut favorite, tied with TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin to win the award. The star running back even has a hype video solely dedicated to his Heisman hopes.
Barrett has the next best odds, behind only Elliott and Boykin. This makes it seem like the bettors believe that Barrett, who broke his ankle in the last regular season game of 2014 against Michigan, will win the quarterback competition between he and Jones. While Barrett has the better odds in the competition, Jones has the ninth best odds of winning the 2015 Heisman trophy. Neither quarterback wishes to share the job once the season starts.
Even with his position change (from quarterback to wide receiver), Miller is still tied for 14th for the best odds to win the the most coveted award in college football, although no one knows how his transition to wide receiver will play out. With the four suspensions to the Buckeyes starters for the season opener at Virginia Tech on Labor Day, Miller will most likely see a lot of time at wide receiver, showing the country what he is capable of on the outside, rather than behind center.
The quarterback competition in Columbus will play a major role in these odds, with the winner of the competition most likely gaining better chances and the named backup quarterback receiving less so.
