August 16, 2015Quarterback turned wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who missed the Browns preseason opener against the Washington Redskins last Thursday, was back at practice in Berea Saturday. Pryor had been turning heads in Browns training camp before a hamstring injury forced him out of action.
Joe Thomas, defensive lineman Billy Winn, and running back Luke Lundy were among other players returning from injury Saturday. Receiver Marlon Moore, rookie fullback Malcolm Johnson, and running back Shawn Draughn all wore non-contact jerseys, while rookie running back Duke Johnson was inactive.
Pryor injured his hamstring in practice on August 4 and has not played since. This year is his first playing wide receiver full time, and he needs all the reps he can get to maximize his chances of making the final roster. Head coach Mike Pettine said Saturday that Pryor is still working toward locking up a spot.
The Browns currently have 11 wideouts on their training camp roster.1 They began last season with five active receivers on the 53-man roster, not including Josh Gordon and Marlon Moore, both of whom were suspended.

Pryor said Saturday that getting back into rhythm was important for him ahead of the team’s second preseason game.
“I thought I was in a great rhythm before I got hurt. I just think I’ll get back in rhythm tomorrow and the next day before the game [in Buffalo against the Bills] comes on Thursday.”
Pryor said that he went “a little light” in practice on Saturday, and estimated that he was in for 12 or 13 plays.
He didn’t look like the only one going a little light. The Browns may have been saving themselves, as the team will head to Pittsford, NY Monday for two joint practices with the Buffalo Bills, against whom they will play Thursday, August 20 in their second preseason game.
If playing at half-speed increases your injury risk, I shudder to think what playing at whatever this speed is does:

The team took it easy Saturday on what multiple players called the hottest day of camp. Previous weather reports suggest that Sunday, August 2 was the actual hottest day of camp, with a recorded high temperature of 90 degrees in Berea. That high, however, wasn’t reached until 3 p.m.; the Browns finished their practice at noon. Perhaps players didn’t notice the heat because they were distracted by their then-new camouflage practice jerseys.
