Browns WR Dwayne Bowe inactive for Week 1

The Cleveland Browns’ alleged answer at wide receiver will remain a question mark for Week 1 as Dwayne Bowe will be inactive against the New York Jets. Bowe was listed as third on the team’s depth chart heading into the game, something shrugged off by head coach Mike Pettine, but it appears that a hamstring injury will keep him sidelined for the Browns’ game in East Rutherford.

Bowe signed to a two-year deal worth $12.5 million in the offseason, including $9 million guaranteed, and has been hampered with injuries since the day he was a part of the team’s giant uniform unveiling. He was absent for the team’s first three preseason contests and was listed as questionable with his hamstring injury heading into the weekend. Brian Hartline and Andrew Hawkins are expected to see the majority of snaps at wide receiver.

Second-year cornerback Justin Gilbert, as expected will also be inactive with an injured hip. He was recently cited for failure to control his vehicle on Friday afternoon, but was not injured any further in the accident. Joining Bowe and Gilbert will be outside linebacker (and second-round draft pick) Nate Orchard, defensive lineman Xavier Cooper, newly acquired running back Robert Turbin, tight end E.J. Bibbs and quarterback Austin Davis.
