September 16, 2015The repercussions of Sunday’s 31-10 loss to the New York Jets just keep coming. Per a source, ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that Browns outside linebacker Scott Solomon will likely be out four to six weeks with an ankle injury suffered early in Sunday’s season opener.
The Browns had high hopes for Solomon, who was cut by three teams before being signed to — and eventually emerging from — the orange and brown practice squad last November. Nicknamed “Bloodbath” when he arrived with the Browns, Solomon previously saw time with the Jets (twice) and the Titans (the Browns’ first two opponents this season), as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I can’t imagine him getting cut four times,” Browns outside linebackers coach Brian Fleury said of Solomon during training camp. “That’s amazing to me. I certainly don’t see that happening here anytime soon. He’s come a long way in a short amount of time and I’m really, really excited to see what he’s able to do in a live situation.”
And while Sunday was his first NFL start in four seasons, Solomon saw only two plays on the field before he was injured. Barkevious Mingo took over at outside linebacker, playing in his first game since having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in early August.
The Browns currently have three active players at the outside linebacker position: Mingo, veteran Paul Kruger, and rookie Nate Orchard, who missed the season opener with a back injury.
As of Tuesday evening, the Browns had yet to make an official announcement or move Solomon to the injured reserve.

i feel bad for the guy … he worked his butt off to be a starter & didn’t even last 1 quarter … tuff break. next man up !
Honestly, I didn’t see what other people did in this guy.
This injury may end up as a blessing in disguise. Solomon may have been a beast in practices, but his preseason game film was less than impressive. He struck me as the next Jason Trusnik. Mingo did some nice things on Sunday and I guess I’d rather see him in there even if he can’t rush the QB. Hopefully Nate Orchard will be healthy… I’d really like to see what he can do as well.
A testament to the weakness of this linebacker crew: 1) Solomon was getting tons of snaps, and 2) He’ll be missed.
