WFNY Roundtable: Browns Attack on Titan
September 18, 2015Browns to wear all-white vs. Titans
September 18, 2015Along with downplaying the importance the read option during his weekly call-in show on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, Ohio State head coach raved about quarterback-turned-receiver Braxton Miller.
“He’s got a dream of playing football for awhile after college,” Meyer said of Miller. He also said that Miller doesn’t want to be just the “fast guy,” but that he takes pride becoming more of an all-purpose player. Through two games, Miller has done just that.
When Miller made the position change, no one could have expected him to transform into the wide receiver that he has been already, just two games into the season. Miller, who considered himself the best athlete in college football, has produced plenty of highlights already, including the spin move heard ’round the college football world in the season opener at Virginia Tech.1 He also laid out two Hawaii players with one block to spring Jalin Marshall on a punt return.
Whether Miller is behind center, in the backfield next to quarterback Cardale Jones or J.T. Barrett, or lined up in the slot or out wide, opposing teams have to account for the senior. He has already tallied 213 all-purpose yards, second most on the team behind running back Ezekiel Elliott’s 252. Miller has carried the ball 13 times for 118 yards and has five receptions for 95 yards, with one touchdown on the ground and one in the air.Although he hasn’t yet, Miller will also throw the ball when he is directly behind center in a wildcat-type formation. Meyer knows that the senior can’t run the ball every time he’s lined up in wildcat or else defenses will key in on that and stop him.
Miller has shown tremendous maturity. He could have transferred to another school and been the starting quarterback,2 but he instead chose to change positions in order to help the Buckeyes. In just two games, Miller’s highlight-reel plays and big play ability have already been noticed, by OSU opponents and NFL scouts alike. By moving to wide receiver, Miller’s chances of getting drafted and playing in the NFL have increased exponentially. Whether it was Meyer or Miller who decided that the senior should make the move to receiver, it was the smartest decision Miller could have made for his future in football.

- He would not have had to sit out a season thanks to graduate transfer rules [↩]

Don’t get too excited Poisonous Nut fans. As long as Farmer is GM, you’ll never see him here.
Unless he stinks, then Ray will draft him in the 4th or 5th round.
