With the Browns as they are, comedy is necessary: While We’re Waiting…

October 21, 2015The Cleveland Browns announced late Tuesday that they signed linebacker Jayson DiManche off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad. To make room for DiManche, the team waived veteran running back Shaun Draughn.
In his first full season in Cleveland (he was signed in December 2014), Draughn appeared in five games as a reserve. The running back totaled just 10 yards on two carries for the Browns, while mostly playing on special teams. After injuring his thumb in training camp and missing part of camp along with the first two preseason games, Draughn was behind the eight-ball before the season even started. With the recently signed Robert Turbin returning from an ankle injury and Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson getting most of the reps at running back, Draughn seemed to become expendable.
He broke the news of his release on Instagram with the perfect hashtags: #firedonmydayoff and #anyonehiring? The upload has since been deleted.
DiManche, a three-year veteran, has appeared in 28 career games. Mainly appearing on special teams, the 6-foot-1, 245-pound linebacker has 29 total tackles in his career. He was originally signed by Cincinnati as an undrafted free agent in 2013. DiManche was waived by the Bengals on September 11 and spent last week on the Chiefs’ practice squad. The move may signal that linebacker Craig Robertson is further away from returning from an injured ankle than originally planned.
The Browns also announced that they have signed tight end Brian Leonhardt to the practice squad and released defensive back Ty Zimmerman.
