Recap of the Top Matchup of the Week
Former No. 9 St. Ignatius falls to Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller, 55-52
St. Ignatius and Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller battled in an offensive shootout on Saturday with Moeller pulling out the win with a late game-winning field goal. The Wildcats pulled out to a big lead early in the second quarter, leading Moeller 38-14. But St. Ignatius’ big lead quickly dwindled, with Moeller pulling to within three points by the end of the first half. The teams played neck and neck for the rest of the game, but a failed fourth-down conversion by St. Ignatius gave the ball to Moeller in good field position to make their late game-winning field goal. Wildcats quarterback Dennis Grosel threw for 456 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for an additional three touchdowns. His 456 yards passing are a school record. Moeller quarterback Thomas MacVittie threw for 475 yards and six touchdowns in the win.
Best Performance
Madison upsetting No. 9 Mayfield, 24-20
Madison had a great performance in their upset win over previously undefeated Mayfield. After trailing Mayfield 20-17 in the fourth quarter, Madison took the lead on a touchdown pass by quarterback Josh Gibson to Mike Serra with just 2:52 left in the game. Vince Primer finished off the win with a game-clinching interception of Mayfield quarterback Mario Monastero. Primer had a safety, an interception, and a touchdown reception for the Blue Streaks. It was an impressive performance from the underdog Madison.
Biggest Surprise
No. 9 Mayfield falling to Madison, 24-20
As was just stated in the best performance section, Madison played a great game versus Mayfield. Still, it is a huge surprise that Mayfield lost. Mayfield came in on a roll and undefeated. Quarterback Mario Monastero and running back Michael Canganelli were having great seasons for the Wildcats. But, Canganelli was held to just 64 yards rushing, while Monastero was picked off three times by Madison. It was a big shocker to see Mayfield fall to 7-1 on the season this week.
Best Individual Performance
RB Chris Jones, Lutheran West
Running back Chris Jones carried the Lutheran West offense in their win over Oberlin. Jones scored all five touchdowns for Lutheran West in their 38-14 victory. He rushed for 287 yards and five touchdowns on 25 carries. He had touchdowns runs of 90, 33, 32, 13 and 11 yards. He was the entire offense for Lutheran West, who had a total of 326 yards of offense as a team.

Top Matchup Next Week
No. 8 Avon travels to Berea-Midpark
Avon gets another tough matchup this week, when the Eagles travel to Berea-Midpark to play the Titans. Avon will need their star quarterback Jake Sopko to air the ball out versus the Titans defense. Berea-Midpark is a talented team with athletes littered throughout the roster. The Titans have had a tough schedule so far, so this game will not be a shock to them. I believe Avon will pull the game out, but the game should be a tight one through the end.
