Don’t blame Mike Pettine for benching Johnny Manziel. Blame Johnny.
November 24, 2015Comfortably numbed by the Browns: While We’re Waiting…
November 25, 2015When Ohio State lost to Michigan State on Saturday only one undefeated Big Ten team remained: Iowa. Enjoying their best season in school history, Hawkeye fans felt maligned all year long and that they were not receiving the respect they deserved. They can now consider themselves on the radar.
The new College Football Playoff Poll was released on Tuesday and the Black and Gold are now on the exclusive side of the velvet rope.
Seed 1: Clemson
Seed 2: Alabama
Seed 3: Oklahoma
Seed 4: Iowa
Next Two: Michigan State, Notre Dame
Clemson continues to win and has shown no reason why they should not be the top team in the Top 25. They close the year against rival South Carolina and will face a stern test in the form of No. 14 North Carolina in the ACC Title Game. Alabama holds its position in the rankings despite playing Southwest Missouri Tech State Academy last week.1 The spot formerly held by the Buckeyes currently rests with Oklahoma. The Sooners toppled then-No. 18 TCU at home last week and look to take a commanding lead in the Big XII with the Bedlam game against Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Despite defeating Boston College, Notre Dame dropped out of the top four and came to rest at No. 6. The Irish’s playoff hopes may very well rest with their final game against No. 9 Stanford. Will a top ten victory be enough to propel Notre Dame into the semifinals? We will find out. Iowa takes up the mantle of the fourth seed with only their Black Friday tilt with Nebraska standing between them and Indianapolis. With the Big Ten West already locked up, the Hawkeyes would theoretically only need two more wins to qualify for the Playoff.
Michigan State made some moves as well, and currently lurk on the perimeter of the playoff. A strong finish, and perhaps a Big Ten Title, along with some chaos above, could crack the door open for Sparty.
As for the Buckeyes, their drop feels about right. Ohio State now sits at No. 8 in the polls with a matchup against No. 10 Michigan looming in Ann Arbor. The clubs have not met as ranked opponents since 2012 and have not clashed as top ten opponents since their classic 1-vs-2 contest in 2006. Two weeks remain, and the door remains open for a handful of teams. However, Rivalry Week will separate the contenders from the pretenders with only Championship week remaining. Are we having fun yet?

Ohio State still has a chance which is why those players who spoke out showed their immaturity. Coaching staff better have something in mind for Saturday. Iowa doesn’t belong.
OSU still has a shot, wow. A lot of crazy things would have to happen.
