Thursday Night Fever: Bucks-Cavs, Behind the Box Score
November 20, 2015Indians to offer live-streaming of all games in 2016
November 20, 2015Hi everyone, welcome to my weekly WWW. I’ve been really busy lately, so I’m not getting to these things quite as early as I used to, but I do cherish the weekly space to talk about pretty much whatever I want. I hope you guys like it alright too.
I miss movies…
It’s been a bit of a slow year for me in terms of seeing movies in the theater. I’m sure I’m ahead of many people’s schedules because I still see a fair amount of movies, but for me, it’s been a slow year. Just checking out the biggest movies of the year, I think I’ve seen only about 17 of the top 50 movies of the year in terms of box office. I recently had lunch with Brian Spaeth and I think we both decided that it’s time to bring back the movie theater trips in our lives, not necessarily together, but back just the same.
So, here’re the movies I’m looking forward to and hopefully you guys can make some recommendations. The Hunger Games finale, The Night Before, Creed, The Good Dinosaur, In the Heart of the Sea, Star Wars, Point Break (remake,) Alvin and the Chipmunks (promised the kids,) and Joy.
I probably can’t get to all of those even, but I definitely won’t be able to if I don’t put them out there and try to see them. Any that I’m missing?
Ben Axelrod talks Buckeyes, Manziel, WWE and more…
I don’t even remember what caused me to reach out to Ben Axelrod initially, but he’s a hell of a podcast guest. The conversations are easy. His takes aren’t so self-assured that he won’t listen to anyone else, and if you notice, he asks almost as many questions of me as I ask him. It’s really fun to go all over the map with him and just in case you miss these things via iTunes or our regular podcast posts, I like to include them here.
The NFL stadium of the future might actually integrate with the city around it…
I’m continually amazed by all the chatter about stadiums whenever the dome conversation comes up. I’m not sure if there’s just an aversion to change or if there’s a lack of forward-thinking bravery among those who are concerned with votes as much as anything else in their careers. However it has come to be, there’s really not that much innovation with regard to stadium thinking since we already had hotel rooms in SkyDome. Stadiums, more often than not, end up being these mostly dark edifices that serve much smaller purpose to the cities they occupy than they could. But check this out.
Your weekly moment of soccer zen…
The soft volley from the far side of the box. This is almost like a cut shot in tennis or something. Just incredible.
It’s the time of year for Los Campesinos…
Nothing new from me this week, but bringing something back. I might have even shared this before, but that’s kind of the point. The weather is finally starting to get cold and I’m starting to break out some of the classic songs and albums that fit in with this kind of weather. I will forever associate Hop Along with this past summer, but “Hello Sadness” by Los Campesinos will always remind me of cold weather and snow flying. “To Tundra,” specifically will do that to me. It’s easily my favorite song by the band and I really like pretty much every album they’ve done, so I feel like that’s saying something. Anyway, enjoy the changing seasons and enjoy Los Campesinos.

The only way Creed can be any good is if Ivan Drago makes an appearance.
Re domes: “I’m not sure if there’s just an aversion to change or if there’s a lack of forward-thinking bravery among those who are concerned with votes as much as anything else in their careers.”
Craig, your bias is showing. There is a third explanation: Many people genuinely believe that sports should be played outdoors on real grass — or at least not on that awful polysynthetic rug.
You could argue that a retractable dome would satisfy some of that outdoorsy desire, but all those edifi are very expensive and architecturally ugly, and the people who run them will close the roof at the first report that a cloud has been sighted 20 miles away.
Play ball in the elements, not in some sterile, artificial warehouse. This attitude might be backward-thinking and cowardly, but it’s still valid.
I legit cannot remember the last movie I saw in a theater. Like, I’m sitting here honestly trying to remember, and I can’t. But having said that, I DO know what the next movie I will see in the theater is. Star Wars, of course.
This.

Bought tickets to opening weekend before halloween, like 11 days before.
It has been over a year for me. I think it was Evil Dead…. that was released in April of 2013.
Am I the only one who doesn’t care about the new Star Wars? After the Phantom Menace, I can no longer get excited about movies.
Cleveland Browns stadium cost about $400M in 2015 dollars. 75% of that was publicly financed. The new Vikings dome is estimated to run $1B (with about half being paid for by taxpayers). So no, I don’t want a dome.
I thought you were talking about the band Creed. Either way, what you said applies.

love the soccer zen … that the goal-scorer was able to kick it in mid-air & be that accurate with his shot is amazing.
LMAO !!
It finally dawned on me. I knew that Pic of Craig in the podcast window reminded me of someone when I saw it every week. I finally figure it out. Craig moonlights as the host of a show on the Smithsonian channel called “The Weapon Hunter”
DOOOOOOBLE PLAYS
… jeremy’s face or his reproductive unit ?
I enjoy the movie theater experience, but dislike a) the ridiculous prices and b) people. So if it’s not the earliest matinee on the schedule, I’m not likely to go. The Martian was the last thing I saw on the big screen, but my Star Wars ticket has already been purchased. Unfortunately, there’s little hope of avoiding a big crowd regardless of day and time (I’m doing 1:00pm Friday). And I’d add ‘Sisters’ to your list, Craig. I’m pretty “take her or leave her” when it comes to Amy Poehler, but my love for Tina Fey is deep and real. And the two of them together rarely fails to amuse.
Winner winner chicken dinner!
From the Four Letter…
CAVS’ TIMOFEY MOZGOV OUT 10 TO 14 DAYS
Mozgov suffered a strained right deltoid during the team’s win over the Bucks Thursday, which will knock him out 10 days to two weeks. Mozgov is averaging 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season.
