November 24, 2015Winter might be headed in full force toward the beautiful north coast of Ohio, but the Cleveland Indians want to help you think warm thoughts, as they released their 2016 Spring Training schedule on Tuesday. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to officially report to Goodyear, Arizona, on February 17, and the full squad reports on February 21.
The Indians begin their Spring schedule on March 1, starting a three-game set against the Goodyear Ballpark co-tenant Cincinnati Reds. Those three are among the 19 total games they will play in the ballpark in March (including three as the “away” team against the Reds). However, Spring Training is all about traveling and seeing the beautiful ballparks and scenery in the gorgeous pre-summer Arizona weather. The Indians help there too, as they play 13 games outside of Goodyear.
The Indians close out the Spring season with two exhibition games in Arlington, Texas before heading back to Cleveland and the friendly confines of Progressive Field to begin the 2016 season.
Single-game tickets for the Indians Spring Training games will go on sale at indians.com/spring on Saturday, Dec. 12, at noon Eastern time. The website also offers Spring season ticket plans and mini-plans along with groups and flex book discounts.
Of course, Spring Training baseball is an absolute festival and highly suggested for those who have never attended and those who might be looking for a warm place to visit in March. WFNY explained why Spring Training matters back in February:
Spring Training brings an abundant amount of fans. In an ordinary setting, baseball fans can be known to gripe, bicker, whine, and even pout over practically anything. Whether it be the postseason format to sabermetrics possibly destroying the game to managers knowledge of which reliever to utilize in particular late game situations. However, Arizona is no ordinary setting because it is the first time these fans have had the ability to see live baseball in months. In addition, many of these fans are traveling from snow-covered regions who have not been able to enjoy the outdoors without a jacket even longer than they have been without baseball. Arizona gives them baseball, warm temperatures, and sunny skies. The fans give Arizona uncontrollably happy tourists ready to spend their money and fill up every available venue with joy. You might even call them giddy.
Only 85 more days until pitchers and catchers report. Only 97 days until March 1.
March isn’t so far away. Right?
