Urban Meyer: “We expect to play better”
November 9, 2015Michael Brantley out 5-6 months after shoulder surgery
November 9, 2015We are one week into the playoffs with a lot of great action already happening in the first round. There were a lot of big performances in Week 1, including some huge upsets. We saw a handful of lower seeds take down their higher seeded opponents, even some No. 1 and 2 seeds. It showed that the postseason is a new season with the regular meaning very little. It was a fun week of action in Ohio high school football.
Let’s take a look at what happened in Week 1 of the high school football playoffs in Northeast Ohio.

Best Performance
No. 7 Holy Name beats No. 2 Perry 50-43
Perry came into the game as one of the top Division IV teams in the state, losing just one game in the regular season. But Holy Name put together an impressive performance to knock off the No. 2 seed, claiming its first playoff victory in 40 years. The Green Wave was led by a dominant performance by running back Shakif Seymour, who ran for 391 (!) yards and six (!) touchdowns. The game was a shootout throughout with both offenses trading touchdowns. Holy Name was able to outperform a talented Perry team who many expected to go deep into the playoffs.
Biggest Surprise
No. 8 Nordonia upsets No. 1 Aurora 39-37
Nordonia put together one of the bigger upsets of the weekend, taking down No. 1 seed Aurora in the Division II playoffs. Nordonia trailed 24-7 in the second quarter and 24-13 at half, but the Knights outscored Aurora 26-13 in the second half. Nordonia was led by their talented running back, Anthony Perrine. Perrine ran the ball 28 times for 136 yards and five touchdowns in the victory. With Aurora down by eight late in the fourth quarter, the Greenmen drove down and scored a touchdown with just 24 seconds left. They just needed a two-point conversion to tie the game back up, but Nordonia stuffed the two-point attempt. Nordonia squeaked out the impressive upset victory.
Best Individual Performance
RB Shakif Seymour, Holy Name
The best individual performance of the weekend came from Holy Name running back Shakif Seymour, who carried his team on his back to upset No. 2 Perry in the Division IV playoffs. Seymour rushed 43 times, amassing a career-high 391 yards and six touchdowns. Seymour, a Toledo commit, ran all over the field, scoring 42 of the teams 50 points in the game. He was outstanding for Holy Name, who had not won a playoff game in 40 years.
