Recap of the Top Matchup of the Week
No. 1 Benedictine beats No. 6 Archbishop Hoban, 35-14
The “Game of the Year” that I proclaimed last week did not live up to it. Benedictine was dominant versus Archbishop Hoban. After falling behind, 7-0, the Bengals finished the game 35-7 over Hoban. The Bengals defense completely controlled the Knights offensive line, inhibiting virtually anything that quarterback Danny Clark and running back Todd Sibley could do all day. On offense, Benedictine’s three best offensive players — running back DeCavilon Reese, running back Dontez Rash, and receiver Justin Layne — all scored at least one touchdown. The Bengals scored most of their points on big plays, and the top matchup of the week was not much of matchup after all.
Best Performance
No. 1 Benedictine controls No. 6 Archbishop Hoban, 35-14
Benedictine lived up to its No. 1 billing by taking care of No. 6 Archbishop Hoban on Saturday, 35-14. Benedictine was dominant on both sides of the ball. On defense, the Bengals held Hoban to just 203 total yards of offense. Benedictine’s offense was full of big plays by its three biggest stars. On the ground, running back DeCavilon Reese rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Dontez Rash rushed 127 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Justin Layne added three catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. It was a complete performance for the No. 1 Benedictine Bengals.
Biggest Surprise
Berea-Midpark falls to Westlake 38-35
Berea-Midpark is a playoff team, but they were upset in overtime, 38-35, by a 3-7 Westlake team on Friday. Westlake held Berea-Midpark scoreless in the extra period, and capitalized with a game-winning field goal on its first offensive opportunity. Quarterback Trey Bialowas, who threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Jaquan Hardy, who rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns, led Westlake’s offense. It was one of the bigger upsets of the season.
Best Individual Performance
WR Logan Bolin, Midview
Midview’s top pass catcher, Logan Bolin, caught 20 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns in Midview’s 35-28 win over North Ridgeville. This performance is even more impressive because it came against a playoff team in North Ridgeville. Bolin has been exceptional this year, teaming up with quarterback Dustin Crum to make one of the best offensive tandems in Northeast Ohio. Bolin has been Midview’s best offensive player this season because he has done everything for the team, even stepping in as quarterback when Crum was hurt.

Hoban and St. V’s make the top ten, but watch out for Buckeye in that bracket, who’ve been rolling folks all season long. Best football team in NEO wearing orange and brown. Go Bucks!
