December 11, 2015Eight Buckeyes selected as All-Americans
December 11, 2015Update: Adolphius Washington has been suspended for the the Buckeyes Fiesta Bowl matchup against Notre Dame, the school announced. Due to the fact that he is a senior, his Ohio State career seems to be over in the wake of his solicitation charges on Wednesday.
With just one game to go in his college career at Ohio State — the Fiesta Bowl against No. 8 Notre Dame — Ohio State senior defensive lineman Adolphus Washington has a little more on his plate than he was expecting. He was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor for soliciting Wednesday night, Fox28 in Columbus learned on Thursday. Ohio State officials later confirmed the news.
A second-team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media, Washington finished the 2015 regular season with 49 tackles (seventh on team), seven tackles for loss, four sacks, and a forced fumble, along with one pick-six.
His status for the final game of his college career is in question, and Ohio State Athletics Communications Spokesperson Jerry Emig said that the “disciplinary action will be handled internally.”
Head coach Urban Meyer is currently on the road recruiting and therefore has not dealt with the situation yet, so a suspension could be forthcoming. Considering this is Washington’s last game in scarlet and gray, a suspension may be less likely than if he were an underclassman. Either way, his status for the Fiesta Bowl is currently unknown.
Once the news was released, Washington released a statement of apology Thursday afternoon:
“I want to sincerely apologize to my family, to coach Meyer and the coaching staff, to my teammates and my friends for my lack of judgement last night and for my actions that I truly regret. I have wanted to be a high-character teammate, a contributor to the success of this program and, most importantly, someone my family can be proud of. I am extremely disappointed in myself, and I can honestly say I will learn from my mistake and I will accept the consequences that deservedly will come my way. And I hope that people will know that I am truly sorry and that I sincerely do apologize.”
With quarterback J.T. Barrett’s OVI arrest during Halloween weekend, this is the second time a member of the Ohio State football team has been in trouble with the law in the last two months.

This isn’t one of those “Sorry I did it” apologies, it’s one of those “Sorry I got caught” apologies. We’ve all made them.
But heck, he’s got one game left. Let him play. Sit him out for the first quarter if you need to make a point, but don’t over-punish. The kid’s embarrassed enough. No harm was done, and justice has already been served.
I really wish college athletes would use some of that education they receive from the university. You are projected as a late first round pick and are in a “showcase” game to scouts everywhere and you go out and do something stupid. Unreal.
What does dolph have against OSU coeds? That’s the real story here.
This assumes that the university if actually interested in educating these athletes. I don’t see any reason to believe that assumption.
Pfft as soon as he does his pro day and pre-draft workouts everyone will forget it. Honestly who hasn’t solicited one time or another? Go to a bar hell go to church and you’ll see it eventually.
Maybe he was branching out or simply there just weren’t any more left!
