Confession of a former Cavs fanatic
December 1, 2015Browns: what really matters is still good
December 1, 2015For the second straight season, Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa has been named the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year, the Big Ten announced Monday night.
In 11 games in 2015 (was suspended for the season opener), Bosa tallied 47 tackles, a team-leading 16 tackles for loss, five sacks, and 14 quarterback hurries. He may not have filled up the stat sheet like some other lineman in the conference, but that was due to the fact that the junior was fighting through double and even triple teams on almost every down he was in the game.
Bosa anchors a Silver Bullets’ defense that allows a just 14 points per game (second in the country) and 303.5 yards of offense (10th).
To compare with his sophomore season, Bosa totaled 13.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss in 2014. Although his numbers may be down from 2014, the All-American was a nightmare for opposing offensive linemen and offenses.

Bosa showed his athleticism in Saturday’s demolition over Michigan, when he snatched an interception and sacked (while injuring) Wolverines’ quarterback Jake Rudock.

Considered to be the top overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Bosa opened things up for other players on defense, especially the defensive line. While getting double or triple teamed, linemen like Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, or Adolphus Washington were able to put pressure on the quarterback. Hubbard and Lewis, who started who received significant playing time on the line in 2015, had a combined 12.5 sacks.
Unfortunately, Bosa was not named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. That award went to Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib. So yes, a player who was not even named the best at his own position won the conference’s player of the year on defense. Doesn’t make much sense, but that’s not for us to figure out.
Nassib had better numbers in 2015, but with Bosa getting all the attention from opposing offense linemen, it was clear that he was the better defensive lineman. But, obviously, some went to the stat sheet for determining who the better player is.

I thought Bosa lived on reputation more this season but I enjoyed him stepping up last week. I wouldn’t take his with a top 5 pick but on the right team he should do well in NFL. I don’t see him as a JJ Watt 2.0 however.
Once Joey Bosa becomes a Cleveland Brown, it will be glorious.

If he can bring Washington, Perry and Powell along with him then okay.
So you’re saying he’ll have a bad pro-day, fall to the Ravens at 8-12, and make 6 pro bowls?
Farmer doesn’t do pro days so there’s that but it will be interesting to see where he ends up. I truly believe he needs to be on a team that has an already strong defense in particular DL. Not sure that’s Baltimore anymore.
At first i would agree but he came on strong as the season progressed. I think he’s still phenomenally talented.
Remember, he’s still just a junior and he was constantly double-teamed all year.
Just keep him away from Gordon.
Great points. I’m not down on him I want all Buckeyes to represent in the NFL I just don’t want him in Cleveland because it wouldn’t do him justice. Not right now.
No doubt. Btw Josh was Tweeting last night. At the end he apologized to Browns fans for letting them down and not being here. Clearly he was high! J/K
For all our troubles on offense, I would not hate him ending up in orange and brown. As long as he doesn’t end up in division, I’ll live with him elsewhere.
