Video: LeBron James honors Special Olympics MVP, gives him game-worn sneakers
December 16, 2015Browns ABC’s: Anticipating Brett (Favre) Comparisons, Week 13
December 16, 2015For most folks in the NBA, referring to LeBron James as a “cry baby” was something that evaporated in the late aughts. Washington Wizards fans tried it with the whole Papa Johns t-shirt fiasco in 2008. I’m fairly certain Souja Boy was involved and iPads weren’t even invented yet.
But don’t tell this to Tommy Heinsohn, play-by-play guy for the Boston Celtics. Rather than explaining why his team was about to drop a mid-week game at home by 12 points, he used a good chunk of his airtime to complain about the four-time MVP—who just did this, by the way—getting whistles in a game which the Celtics all but advertised was going to be physical.
Heinsohn complained on offense, complained on defense, and then even complained during a portion of the game where little action was taking place, dropping the ever-witty “cry baby” line. The former Celtic player and coach is notorious for being a homer, so much so that even Boston fans complain, but was in rare for even for himself on Tuesday night.
Who is announcing this Grizzlies-Spurs game? These guys are such homers that even Tommy Heinsohn is disgusted.

On a night where the players didn’t aknowledge each other before tip, it appears that many parties are hoping for the Cavs and Celtics to form a bit of a rivalry. If Heinsohn has his say, we’ll take it all the way back a decade or so. Crank up the Flo Rida and Leona Lewis. Let’s do this.

Tommy Heinsohn calling someone a crybaby. That’s rich…
Yes…

I dunno man. If the Cavs are smart, they’ll start treating the Celtics like they started treating the Wizards- as irrelevant.
Ill-informed, cluelessly-biased Boston man acting blowhardy and douchey? I’m shocked! Thank goodness there is video proof.
Way to be a professional.
The best was when he was talking about LeBron pulling his “King James” act when the replay was showing a fiercely clean block from behind. And Tommy didn’t say a word about the play because he knew he’d been wrong. He just kept talking about LeBron.
I was very happy to see and hear the NBATV studio guys talking about him, too. I just can’t stand watching that guy. He’s the only one worse than Hawk Harrelson.
He gets on my nerves almost as much as Hawk Harrelson. The funny thing is when Boston played Golden State he was bemoaning Curry and all of the free throw attempts the Warriors took. I didn’t mind that as much. So I guess it’s really subjective.

Stay classy
The worst homers I’ve listened to have been Larry Munson and Myron Cope.
And although I always liked Paul Keels (He’s the best IMO.), his partner Jim Lachey was the worst.
How often do we get to call something on the internet “ironic” and know the word is being used correctly?
This article features a tweet trumpeting that Tommy won the Rookie of the Year Award over Bill Russell. (Russell led the NBA in rebounding at 19.6 a game.)
In 1957.
I wonder why?
That was pretty funny… they kept reminding everyone that the telecast was Boston’s home commentators because all of Twitter was complaining.
Not to be that guy, but… Tommy Heinsohn is actually the color commentator, not the play-by-play guy.
“But don’t tell this to Tommy Heinsohn, play-by-play guy for the Boston Celtics.”
That being said, I was just laughing to myself the whole time last night after watching LeBron get mugged every single time he went to the basket (but he didn’t go to the foul line even once until the late 2nd quarter). Keep doing you, Tommy.
