Hue only live twice, Mr. Jackson
January 14, 2016Could Duke Johnson be the Browns version of Giovani Bernard?
January 14, 2016After the Cleveland Browns hired head coach Hue Jackson on Tuesday, one of the biggest questions many people had was about quarterback Johnny Manziel’s future in Cleveland. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns are expected to part ways with the second-year quarterback either via a trade or simply by releasing Manziel.
The 22nd overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft has had plenty of issues in his short Browns tenure. After a tumultuous rookie campaign, Manziel spent 73 days in a rehabilitation center during the 2015 off-season. He was questioned by police following an in-car fight with his girlfriend. There are plenty of videos of him drinking going viral, Vegas trips, a “Billy” identity, a mysterious no-show following a Week 16 concussion, and the old giving the Washington Redskins bench the finger during his rookie season. Manziel simply hasn’t lived up to expectations of play or professionalism in his first two years in The Land.
In his two seasons, Manziel has led the Browns to a 2-6 record in eight starts, while completing 147-of-258 passes (57 percent), throwing for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions. No. 2 has also ran for 259 yards and one touchdown on 46 carries.
During Hue Jackson’s press conference Tuesday night, introducing the new head coach in Berea, Ohio, Jackson was asked about the future of Manziel. “I don’t know him personally. I have to give everyone on this team an opportunity to prove who they are,” Jackson said. “I need to evaluate him as a football player and find out more about (other things).”
Some are already cutting ties though. LeBron James associated LRMR agency and (most likely) Nike have already parted ways with the Texas A&M product and it looks as though the Browns could be the next. Unfortunately for Cleveland, their first-round selection in 2014 will only bring back a late-round pick if anything at all.
If Manziel is let go, the Browns, who own the No. 2 pick in the 2016 draft, can either draft a quarterback to start Week 1 or use a veteran placeholder as they do have Josh McCown and Austin Davis under contract for 2016. With Tennessee already having their starting quarterback — No. 1 overall pick Marcus Mariota in 2015 — Cleveland might be able to select whichever quarterback they want to lead their team. Or, they could pick Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell.

Dang it. You’re right. Why didn’t I think of that? That’s it. I’m going dark.
What about a theory where he was concussed, drunk, wants to play for the Cowboys, and Pettine just hates him?
LMFAO !!
I guess if you spend enough of your life spreading rumors, you become a “source” in your own right.

sounds like something #TeamRational would say …
I don’t understand why the organization would have reached a conclusion on any player before a new GM has even been hired. Sure, Sashi has final say over the roster, but you don’t go making major, high profile decisions that any new GM would want input on while you’re in the midst of hiring that new GM.
I also find it hard to believe that a new coach would have such strong opinions about Manziel that he’d want him gone without so much as conferring with the organization or talking to the guy himself. That just doesn’t seem very NFLheadcoachy.
I think SI has a good retrospective on RG3. Most everybody said he was a good teammate the past 2 years, tons of extra time put in, etc.
Interesting how writers can say so emphatically the new coach will get rid of Johnny. He said he’d give all a chance as he should. Speculation is the pits. Maybe there were elements that wouldn’t allow Johnny to succeed
.
Browns are expected to part ways!!! Been reading this for some time already..so dump him already! Then the brainiacs in the organization can draft another loser and the season will carry on like all the rest!
