The inside scoop on Stipe Miocic – WFNY Podcast No. 453
January 26, 2016LeBron James says he will be in better shape in “less than a week”
January 26, 2016While Ray Farmer’s stint as general manager of the Cleveland Browns featured the team shunning live talent evaluation in group settings, Hue Jackson and Sashi Brown will be leading a team of individuals to Mobile, Alabama for the impending Senior Bowl. In a story written by ESPN.com’s Pat McManamon, one subject of interest could be North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, a player who has crept up many draft boards since the completion of the collegiate regular season.
Via McManamon:
If the Browns truly are moving on from Johnny Manziel, the evaluation to find a franchise quarterback must begin anew. While the team has been noncommital, all outside indicators point toward Manziel not being back. The words of owner Jimmy Haslam ring loud. The day the 2015 season ended and Haslam was asked about the team’s quarterback situation, he pointedly mentioned that the Browns have the second overall pick in the draft.
Conventional wisdom has Jared Goff of Cal and Memphis’ Paxton Lynch as the best two quarterbacks available in this year’s draft. Wentz is the wild card.
He played in the FCS against teams like Weber State, Southern Illinois and Missouri State. He threw for 5,115 yards, 45 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 42 games, and ran for 13 more touchdowns. This season, his team went 13-2 and won the FCS championship.
Wentz is currently ranked as the third-best quarterback on both ESPN.com Big Boards, coming in behind Cal’s Jared Goff—who Kiper has going to the Browns at No. 2—and Memphis’ Paxton Lynch. While a bit raw, Wentz has been given credit for working in more of a professional-style offense as compared to many of his peers.
There may not be much Wentz could show at the Senior Bowl that would get any NFL team’s to massively overhaul their draft board, but having the contingent on the premises is half of the battle.
Expect plenty more on Wentz over the coming days. For now, a highlight video:

Maybe. There is still so much time between now and the draft. I think I am sold on the Browns going QB at 2, regardless of which one is found to be the best.
