Major League is one giant sex metaphor: While We’re Waiting…
March 30, 2016Ohio Stadium to undergo $42 million renovation
March 30, 2016Two weeks after being released by the Cleveland Browns, it looks as though veteran linebacker Karlos Dansby is heading to the southern part of Ohio. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 34-year-old has signed a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals after visiting the team last week.
Signed as a free agent by the Browns prior to the 2014 season, the linebacker recorded 202 tackles (110 solo), three sacks, three forced fumbles, six passes defended, and four interceptions (two of which were returned for touchdowns). In 2016, while playing all 16 games, Dansby’s 108 tackles (62 solo) led the team, and he also graded out as the third-best inside linebacker according to Pro Football Focus.
Set to join his fourth team in his career in the NFL, the former second-round pick out of Auburn has totaled 1,209 tackles (931 solo), 20 forced fumbles, 10 recovered fumbles, 75 passes defended, 19 interceptions, and six touchdowns while playing for the Arizona Cardinals (seven seasons), Miami Dolphins (three), and Cleveland (two).
Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle and Dansby were together in Miami, giving the linebacker a connection to the Bengals, outside of the fact that they have been division foes the past two seasons. Also, one of his former coordinators, Kevin Coyle, is now in Cincinnati as well. Dansby will not only provide leadership to Cincinnati’s defense, but he will most likely fill in for Vontaze Burfict during the linebacker’s impending three-game suspension. While he may have showed that his run defense may not be as good in his 12th season in the league, Dansby has also proven that he can be a playmaker in pass coverage and will likely be on the field for all of Cincinnati’s sub packages on passing downs.
Following his departure from the Browns, Dansby told cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, “I’m sure sure the Bengals are licking their chops right now.” Well, it looks as though that statement has come to fruition. While the Browns appear to be rebuilding the back-half of their defense, and were thought to be in the mix for a host of Bengal free agents, it’s Cincinnati who will get a bit stronger with the signing of Dansby.

minor mistake … should be “in 2015 …” … it is hard for me to believe he graded-out as the 3rd best ILB … i’d almost be willing to bet a good portion of his tackles were 5 yards or further past the line-of-scrimmage.
I thought for sure he’d have to do his grooming gig full-time after the Browns cut him

another minor mistake … Kevin Coyle is mentioned as being in Cincinnati twice:
“Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle and Dansby were together in
Miami, giving the linebacker a connection to the Bengals, outside of the
fact that they have been division foes the past two seasons. Also, one
of his former coordinators, Kevin Coyle, is now in Cincinnati as well.”
