March 9, 2016LeBron James Doesn’t Get a Free(throw) Pass from Officials
March 9, 2016The gaping hole at the wide receiver position for the Cleveland Browns just grew a bit wider. Early reports surrounding the start of NFL Free Agency indicate that the Browns will not only lose one of their own, but a targeted addition as well.
Though he was linked to teams such as Atlanta and Houston, Browns wide receiver Travis Benjamin has agreed to terms with the San Diego Chargers.
Good morning, San Diego: Chargers agreed to terms with WR Travis Benjamin, source confirms. Speedy WR, returner. @Rand_Getlin first reported

Benjamin, 26, was one of the top names in an otherwise underwhelming receiver free agent market. Initial talks had Benjamin returning to Cleveland, but this quickly changed as the start of free agency drew closer. He caught a career-high 68 passes for 966 yards and five touchdowns in a breakout season with Cleveland, but will now become one of Philip Rivers’ top play-making weapons out west. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Benjamin will sign a four-year, $24 million deal with $13 million guaranteed.
Making matters a bit worse, according to various reports, including this one by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones will be heading to the Detroit Lions as they look to fill in the spot vacated by the recently retired Calvin Johnson. The Browns were said to be one of several teams interested in the play-making receiver who spent the last several years with Hue Jackson in Cincinnati. Jones, who caught 10 touchdowns in 2013, rebounded from a season-ending foot injury in 2014 to catch 65 passes for 816 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. His deal with the Lions is for $40 million over five years with $27 million in the first three seasons ($13 million of which is due in 2016).
I'm told the #Browns came in with a low offer for #Bengals WR Marvin Jones and were not serious contenders

The Browns currently have Brian Hartline and Andrew Hawkins as their top wide receiving options for what is looking to be a rookie quarterback in 2016. They are also awaiting word on the potential return of Josh Gordon who has spent the last 12 months suspended by the NFL.

I had high hopes for Travis when we drafted him, but after seeing how easy it is to press him at the line and knock his tiny frame off of routes I have lost faith.
maxnfmloans provided this further analysis that points to last year being an aberration:
if you simply back out the games Johnny played, where he only put up numbers on the “Johnny scramble drill” plays where he snuck behind the defense (i.e. not designed plays), his numbers are pretty bad.
Looks pretty consistent with what is being said today.
Perfect
Reports are Schwartz and Mack are on their way out.
Our Moneyball gurus do know that they they are obligated to SPEND a minimum amount of Salary Cap money, right?
Dude. Seriously there are groups to talk about stuff like this in.
Just let him go.
Problem of course being he doesn’t actually have all the talent in the world.
I thought this was the place to talk about stuff like this. No? Sorry.
Safe zone.
Apparently not. Bully.
SIDDOWN AND SHUDDUP.

hi CHRIS … it would actually be nice to see him focus & take it seriously, so we could see how much talent he actually does have.
i would say “yes” … they are concocting their maniacal scheme as we speak (i hope).
We’ve seen it.
It couldn’t beat out Brian Hoyer or Josh McCown for opening day starting role, stop fooling yourself with “if he focused”.
As my two year old daughter would say…. Let it GOOOOOOO, Let it GOOOOOOO.
REAL tough to attract free agent wide receivers when you haven’t had a good quarterback in 20 years.
