Who is this Corey Coleman guy?
April 29, 2016Chris Jent glad to be back at Ohio State
April 29, 2016The Browns traded down twice, adding many picks, but finally took their man, receiver Corey Coleman at No. 15 in the 2016 NFL Draft. They get an explosive receiver who can make big plays for the offense and get the ever-elusive touchdown. But, the Browns are far (and I mean far) from done. The team has 11 picks left, including four picks on Day 2 of the draft. This means the Browns will be looking to amass even more talent. And there is a lot of top talent left on the board after the first round. Let’s take a look at some of the best players available who could intrigue the Browns on Day 2.
WFNY Joe Gilbert’s 2016 NFL Draft Coverage:
Safeties | Cornerbacks | Inside Linebackers | Edge Rushers | Interior Defensive Linemen | Offensive Tackles | Interior Offensive Linemen | Tight Ends | Wide Receivers | Running Backs | Quarterbacks | Big Board | Mock Draft
ILB Myles Jack, UCLA
He is my No. 1 inside linebacker and No. 4 overall player in the draft. He is the biggest boom or bust option left on the board because of his huge health concerns. If the Browns are confident in his medicals, the team could get the biggest steal of the draft. He is one of the best athletes in the draft, let alone at linebacker. He plays from sideline to sideline, able to catch running backs to the edge. He can play all three downs because of his excellent coverage ability. He has the athleticism and talent to cover slot receivers, tight ends and running backs. He would be a huge pickup at No. 32 and help a defense that needs playmakers.

EDGE Noah Spence, Eastern Kentucky
He is my No. 2 ranked edge rusher and No. 11 ranked player overall. He has his fair share of question marks. The biggest question mark is his character and off field life style. If he can get these issues behind him, he has some of the best pass rushing skills in the entire draft. He is an explosive athlete, who can beat blockers to edge, showing good bend to cut the edge and get to the quarterback quickly. He is tough to stay in front of because of his quickness and strong hands to disengage and get away from linemen. He would help the Browns porous pass rush.
DL A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama
A’Shawn Robinson is my No. 4 ranked interior defensive lineman and No. 20 overall player. The Browns need run stuffers on the defensive line and Robinson would fit that bill perfectly. He is a huge player with good length to keep blockers away from his body, keeping his eyes in the backfield to locate the ball carrier. He is hard to move, standing stout at the point of attack. He is still very young, showing a very raw pass rushing skillset. He has the athleticism and size to develop into a quality pass rusher with time. He can fit as a five-technique player on the Browns, while also moving inside in certain situations.
DL Chris Jones, Mississippi State
Chris Jones is a powerful man who can handle himself well in the trenches. He is a powerful player at the point of attack with the ability to control defenders with his strong hands. He can easily disengage from blocks with strength or even surprising quickness. For a man 6-foot-6, 310-pounds, he has good feet and quickness to elude blockers. He is quick off the line, gaining an advantage on the offensive lineman. He would be a good fit for the Browns on their defensive line because of his versatility to play multiple spots.
WR Michael Thomas, Ohio State
Michael Thomas is my No. 3 ranked receiver in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Browns have already selected receiver Corey Coleman, but the Browns still need a receiver with size. At 6-foot-3, Thomas has the size and athleticism that the Browns would love to match with Coleman. The Ohio State receiver has good ball skills, showing strong hands to bring tough catches. He runs good routes, which helps him gain separation from his coverage. He also has the ability to run after the catch to extend the yardage and make a bigger play.

ILB Reggie Ragland, Alabama
Reggie Ragland is my No. 3 ranked inside linebacker in the 2016 NFL Draft. He is one of the toughest and most physical players in the draft. He can handle himself well at the line of scrimmage, making him a great run stopping linebacker. He has good instincts and mental makeup to diagnose a play and react quickly to the play. He is a leader of the defense, putting his teammates in the right position. The Browns could use more physical and run stopping type players in the linebackers unit.
DL Jarran Reed, Alabama
Jarran Reed is a run stopping defensive lineman, who is tough to move at the point of attack. He can fill holes in the running game, clogging the running lanes for the opposing offense. He is a tough tackle who can punish the runner with hard hits. The Browns need run stoppers on their defense, so adding one on the defensive line would be a good place to get one.
EDGE Kevin Dodd, Clemson
Kevin Dodd is my No. 4 ranked edge rusher in the 2016 NFL Draft. He is a player who can get to the quarterback and be a dangerous pass rushing threat. He has quickness to get to the edge, showing solid dip to cut the edge and get to the quarterback. He plays hard with strong hands to control blockers. He is not the strongest player, but his quickness and hand usage helps him get away from blockers. Dodd could be an option to bolster the outside linebackers unit for the Browns.

LB/S Su’a Cravens, USC
Su’a Cravens is a versatile player who could play either linebacker or safety in the NFL. He has good athleticism combined with good instinct. He quickly diagnoses a play and closes to the ball immediately. He is good in coverage to be a player who can read and react to the quarterback, picking off passes with his good hands. The Browns could use a player like him on their defense.
OT Shon Coleman
Shon Coleman is a physical blocker with strength to push defenders around. He is a road grader who can create holes by moving defenders with his power. He has strong hands that carry a heavy punch to stun the rushers and control them in a block. Coleman would be a good fit as the Browns right tackle, because of his power and strength.
RB Devontae Booker, Utah
Devontae Booker is my No. 2 ranked running back in the 2016 NFL Draft. He possesses a good combination of both power and quickness that makes him tough to bring down. He plays with balance to take a hit or make an agile move and stay upright to extend the run. He has strong cutting ability to stop and go with quick feet. The Browns would be wise to pair him with Duke Johnson in the backfield.
TE Hunter Henry, Arkansas
Hunter Henry is my No. 1 ranked tight end in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Browns need a blocking tight end to go alongside Gary Barnidge. He is a complete tight end who can help as a receiver and a blocker. He has great hands to make tough catches as a receiver. As a blocker, he has solid technique with quick feet to stay in front of defenders. He would be a good match with Barnidge.

S Darian Thompson, Boise State
Darian Thompson is my No. 2 ranked safety in the 2016 NFL Draft. He is a complete safety who can help against both the pass and run. He has great quickness to react to plays, diagnosing and reacting instantly to a play. He is a physical tackler who can come up and stop the run for a defense. The Browns are definitely in need of a safety with the loss of Tashaun Gipson and Donte Whitner.

if you trade out, youre giving up jack. question becomes e.g., will both spriggs and spence be there at 43/45.
me, im taking jack.
cant believe the browns have had 20 hours to research their next pick and specifically when a talent like jack begs for scrupulous research. they’ll either take him or get more value for a 32nd overall than has ever been. and if they do take him at least you know they’ve done all the due diligence humanly possible beforehand.
i want to take him.
If we don’t have to move down too far, make the deal. There’s at least 10-15 players on the Board I wouldn’t mind having in an orange helmet. But at what point do too many Draft picks actually become a problem? No sarcasm intended–we simply can’t roll into this season with 12 rookies on our 52-man roster. Some fifth, sixth, and seventh rounders will wind up getting cut (as they did last year) which is a terrible waste of a draft pick.
There’s always next year’s Draft but again, you’re risking a cumulative wave of too many rookies. Sure, we’re rebuilding from scratch but I don’t necessarily want to see twenty first or second-year players on the 2017 Cleveland Browns roster. I hope DePodesta isn’t looking at this with an MLB mentality because it’s not like the Browns have a Triple A team to stash all these “prospects” they’re swooping up.
Interesting. Thanks for the clarification. Still doesn’t make sense, does it?
And Willis McGahee had a worse injury history than Jarvis Jones, and he fell to the Bills at #23, and he was a solid pro, rushing for over 1,000 yards four times.
So what’s your point?
That makes you AND me, for starters.
And my stance has altered in reasoning a little. While we keep talking about how the Browns can’t miss, I argue that because of the amount of picks they have amassed, they CAN miss and still be ok.
I’m not ready to give them a 2nd round mulligan just yet, but I think the risk/reward is too high to pass up.
I’d actually go with, “extraordinary.”
I figure…hope…one of two things is happening.
They’re going to take him. Please, please, please…
Or, they’re taking bids in a bidding war.
If they trade, I want a 2017 1st and 2018 2nd, and swap 2016 2nd rounders
it’s got all the hallmarks of a win-win situation for the browns.
i… i dont quite know how to handle this.
i want him too but as you can tell i’ve gotten a headstart on rationalizing a trade out.
No. It does not. It ups the value of the Browns pick (either for trade or use), so I’m not complaining, but it is really, really weird.
If we end up with a big-time playmaker on offense (Coleman) and defense (Jack), then I’m gonna be happy about this first round though.
