Another week of wondering about Josh Gordon
April 2, 2016The purge continues: Browns release safety Donte Whitner
April 2, 2016When the Cleveland Browns selected Oregon cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu in the seventh round of the 2015 draft, they knew he was unlikely to play a single down during his rookie season. Ekpre-Olomu suffered both a torn ACL and dislocated knee in a December 2014 practice at Oregon, fell toward the bottom of the draft, and missed the entire 2015 NFL campaign. His recovery from the injuries has apparently taken a bit longer than expected, and on Saturday the Browns announced that they released Ekpre-Olomu. The team
The statement, in full:
The Cleveland Browns have waived defensive back Ifo Ekpre-Olomu with a non-football injury.
Ekpre-Olomu was selected by the Browns in the seventh round last year. He missed the entire season with a knee injury he sustained in college.
The University of Oregon product said that he was “close” to 100 percent in an Instagram post in mid-February, but things must have taken a turn for the worse in the last month and a half.
Ekpre-Olomu was a first-team All-American as a junior and was widely considered one of the top cornerbacks in the 2015 draft class. He was expected to be a first-round pick before his knee injuries, and the Browns picked him in hopes that he would tap into that potential. Ekpre-Olomu cashed in on an insurance policy that he took out before going back to Oregon, but now he finds himself looking for a new employer.
The release of Ekpre-Olomu is the latest blow to the Browns secondary. With the loss of All-Pro safety Tashaun Gipson to the Jaguars in free agency, cornerback Joe Haden allowing a near perfect passer rating in 2015, and the obvious struggles of second-year cornerbacks Justin Gilbert and Pierre Desir, Ekpre-Olomu was seen as a potential bright spot in the Browns defensive backfield in 2016. With the losses of Gipson and Ekpre-Olomu, the Browns secondary has plenty of question marks.

What the heck?
Why? He isn’t even taking a roster spot is he?
His knee must be wrecked. He may also have needed this to get an injury settlement if he was retiring.
Hope they have some info that made this decision a no brainer. Gonna be brutal if he turns up somewhere else and balls.
Long bets don’t work when the organization turns over ever 2 years.
I hope we see him gain and he gets a pick-6 on whatever joker Sashi starts at QB.
I am a supporter of the new regime but I don’t understand this one.
his knee must be shot …
Why? “Non-Football Injury”??? There was nothing to lose by keeping him.
This is a sign they are drafting Jalen Ramsey…
Clearly he had a major setback again. He said he was almost 100% and now they cut him, so obviously he re-injured it somehow. This sucks. I had high hopes of him becoming a solid starter. He was awesome in college before his injury.
