Browns acquire CB Jamar Taylor from Dolphins, swap seventh round picks
April 30, 2016C-Cap Recap: A Philly Sweep & Tom Hamilton (The Musical)
May 2, 2016The Browns made their final pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, selecting LB Scooby Wright III with pick No. 250, which they acquired in the Jamar Taylor trade. This selection is the 14th pick of the 2016 NFL Draft for the Browns, tying the record for the biggest draft class by a NFL team since 1979, when there were 12 rounds. Scooby Wright is a 6-foot, 239-pound junior linebacker from Arizona. In three games, he notched 23 tackles, three and a half tackles for a loss and two sacks. He suffered knee and ankle injuries in his junior season, cutting it down to just three games. In his sophomore campaign, he posted 163 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, one quarterback hurry and six forced fumbles. This 2014 production earned him the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award and Chuck Bednarik Award. He could be a late round steal for the Browns. Scooby is joining the Dog Pound!
Pro Football Focus loves Scooby Wright. They ranked him as the No. 71 overall player in the entire draft. He was the second highest graded FBS linebacker for the 2014 season. Here is a look at what NFL.com has to say about the newest Browns linebacker:
STRENGTHS: Possesses elite instincts. Appears to head in direction of the play like he knows the play call. Extremely active and always on the balls of his feet and ready to hunt. Plays with an insane amount of competitive fire. Flows quickly to point with downhill action and looking to disrupt. Is often able to force cutbacks or alter the running backs track. Can time snaps and shoot gaps making him a dangerous blitzer. His 2014 season, which included 163 tackles, 29 tackles for losses, 14 sacks and six forced fumbles, is widely considered the most productive for a linebacker in college football history. Explodes with hips into tackles and finishes with his feet. Play speed is faster than timed speed thanks to combination of instincts and burst to the ball. Shows plus lateral agility with ability to engage in, shed, or beat the block.WEAKNESSES: Needs to learn to harness his energy and passion to improve his body control. Will end up on the ground a little too often due to revved up motor. Average athlete with below average straight-line speed. Plays upright. Needs more bend in his waist and knees to improve his pad level and leverage. Can improve his tackling. Will get run through at times due to leverage issues. Stiff change of direction creates arm tackling situations and missed tackles. Gets caught guessing sometimes and will vacate his run fit.
I guess he’s pretty excited about getting drafted!

Maybe it’s just me, but I have a feeling this may be the first time in a long time that virtually every single pick that the Browns made in this draft will be a key contributor for this team for a long time.
It’s your hangover from last year affecting your judgement. I love me some Scooby though. If he can strip sack ben just one time it wasn’t a wasted pick even if he does get hurt again.
I think a breakfast sandwich can cure hangovers not cause them. Anyway, I really want to see how Hue Jackson uses these guys though.
We got one guy I REALLY wanted!

I think that’s the optimism talking… 14 draft picks… if even half of them become key contributors then I think we should be very happy. Some of the guys are long shots. Louis from Auburn and Drango from Baylor come to mind. I do think the Browns will get several starters out of this draft though. I like the direction the HBT and Hue took in this draft.
RGB, you should be doing back flips! You were calling for the Browns to take Scooby in the 2nd round! This is a coup in round 7.

if 7 of these players become key contributors more than 3 years down the line, then this draft was a huge, huge success.
Agree. I would take 5 contributors. That would be great. 7 would be amazing. 10 would be the best draft in NFL history.
Scooby dooby doo where are you? The Browns have got some work for you now.
I absolutely love this pick. He will most likely make it as a special teams player and I can see him becoming a fan favorite. I like that most of the picks are very high motor guys and Scooby is off the charts.
Getting 7 contributors out of this draft would be easily one of the best drafts in history. I don’t see it. The reality is if 5 are on the roster in 3 years this will be a turning point. I am most excited about the potential signing of f/a Mike Matthews. We desperately need backup center help and he’s another guy we will be pulling for.
It’s obvious that the HBT is going to throw as many bodies as possible at our team and hope that the theory of accuracy-through-quantity pans out.
I figure 3 drafts of mass numbers will tell the tale.
You’re going to love this but there are actually studies that show that no GMs have a significant advantage over other GMs in terms of percentage of picks that turned into valuable players. The teams that have had the best success in drafts are the teams that make the most picks 🙂
Instead of sacks it will be snacks aka Scooby snacks!
I’m totally on board with the mass number concept, but they can’t all be flyers.
I’ll be working up an adjusted draft tomorrow.

True, I am very interested to see how this concept pans out. The players selected all seem to be either superior athletes or extremely productive players in college (often both).
hi LUNCH … i’m with you on this. most of these kids/picks were award winners , POY in their conference or an all-american.
all smart kids with good character & numbers to back it up.
hi PAT … drango was a unanimous all-american 2 years in-a-row … i’m wondering if RG will be his calling.
hi PETE … if you also take in to account that the browns now have TWO 1st-round picks , TWO 2nd round picks , ONE 3rd round & FOUR 4th round picks to start their draft with next year , and then the extra 2nd round pick they got for 2018 , this WAS a successful draft for the new FO …. especially for their first go-round.
Indeed, he was a very effective college player. From what I’ve read, he doesn’t really have the right measurables for either tackle or guard in the NFL, but I’m willing to let the kid prove himself. There are some very good tackles and guards in the NFL who don’t fit the standard mold.
Gotta love it when one of the listed weaknesses is basically “Motor too high.”
