Hopefully not a first round preview: Cavaliers vs Bulls, Behind the Box Score
April 10, 2016Vonny Manziel, Mag Art, and LeBron’s lifetime deal with Nike: While We’re Waiting…
April 11, 2016The Cleveland Indians have made a trade, but not the kind that will make you feel any better about their current outfield situation. On Sunday afternoon, the team announced that they have dealt outfielder James Ramsey and infielder Zach Walters to the Los Angeles Dodgers for what is being called cash considerations.
Ramsey, you may remember, was acquired in the deal that sent one-time ace Justin Masterson to St. Louis. At the time, he was the No. 6 prospect in a historically solid Cardinals farm system who was hitting hitting .300/.389/.527 with 13 home runs and 36 runs batted in over 67 games during his second season with Double-A Springfield at the time of the trade.
Walters was acquired later that same day when the Tribe sent Asdrubal Cabrera to the Washington Nationals. He flashed glimpses of power for the Indians, but never settled in at a specific position and was eventually lost in the shuffle once Francisco Lindor made the jump to the big leagues.
Ramsey, Walters and left-handed relief pitcher Giovanni Soto were designated for assignment earlier in the week to clear space on the 40-man roster for veterans Joba Chamberlain, Marlon Byrd and Ross Detwiler, leaving the Indians without much in the way of leverage with either player. Neither Masterson nor Cabrera amounted to much following their days with the Tribe, but you can’t fault any fans who had hoped to net a bit more in deals that saw two veterans leave town.

Ramsey is a disappointment. He looked like he had the tools to be something, but really regressed — last year particularly.
Probably nowhere near enough to clear the Swisher/Bourn albatross from around our necks…
Probably barely enough to cover the cost of bringing Josh Martin back.
I’m still not sure why the DFA’d him. Aguilar and Butler are both older, are already on their last option year, and more limited defensively. Walters was awful last year and in spring training, so his cutting made all the sense in the world. But Ramsey was passable enough at AAA last year to warrant being added to the 40 man roster.
I’m surprised that literally anyone wanted Zach Walters.
My income for this week is 7800 dollars. More than a year ago I was jobless , with zero bank credit and that was terrifying..ad I do thanks to one of my friends who revealed to me a way how I was able to gather myself and making average of 65 d an hour. It was life changing . Look here for details.

How much cash could this possibly be worth
But Butler was a slightly above average hitter at the mlb level last year. (105 OPS+) while Ramsey hasn’t yet cracked a lineup. I’m a little surprised they gave up on him at age 25 as well, though, given he had hit very well at the AAA level in his first year there. I don’t know what they saw going on with him last year, but I’m guessing it carried over into this spring. I would think Ramsey would be more desirable to keep around than somebody like Grossman, but maybe there is some restriction I’m missing.
Aguilar’s AAAA clock is ticking, but they don’t know what they’re going to do at 1B next season and Bradley is still 2 years away. It’s his first full season in Lynchburg, so he won’t push Nellie Rodriguez forward from below just yet, but given N-Rod’s performance in Akron last year I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to get a look at him in Columbus sooner than later. He’s only 21, though, so they need to keep Aguilar around in case Napoli gets hurt or something.

I was surprised to learn that the Mets gave Cabrera 18.5 million this off season.
