Who Should Sponsor the Cavs’ Uniforms in 2017-18?
April 19, 2016The NFL Draft, Chris Rock, and Pearl Jam: While We’re Waiting…
April 20, 2016At some point we won’t even be able to discuss Johnny Manziel as an option on the SEC Network. Now that he’s unrepresented by an agent, it’s probably closer than ever before. Drew Rosenhaus, Manziel’s second agent of the offseason, had given his unemployed client an ultimatum to clean up his substance-riddled lifestyle and get help or he was going to fire the man with the unofficial last name of “Football.” After five days waiting for the Heisman-winning quarterback to comply, Rosenhaus put his words into actions, firing his first client in nearly three decades of work.
And now Drew Rosenhaus officially has terminated Johnny Manziel, making him second agent in two months to fire the talented and troubled QB.

Earlier this week Rosenhaus spoke about the Manziel situation with Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk.
On Friday, Rosenhaus explained that he had never before fired a client in his 27 years of representing players. His exasperation with Manziel was obvious, and Rosenhaus hoped that the termination would be the wake-up call Manziel needs.
The phone has been ringing for Manziel for months now, but either he doesn’t hear it or he doesn’t care. Without a representative to guide his career and persuade a team to give him a chance, Manziel has no shot at getting back into the NFL.
And once again, we’re left wondering if this is finally rock bottom for Johnny Manziel. I don’t mean to put football and business before the incidents involving Johnny Manziel’s girlfriend, but the incident from January in Texas is still pending and he’s responded in what seems like the worst way possible for his career and almost undoubtedly himself as a human being.
Rosenhaus is the third professional divorce for Manziel of late. In January LeBron James’ agency, LRMR, severed ties with Manziel.
“We’ve decided to end our formal business relationship with Johnny,” said Maverick Carter, James’ long-time friend and business partner who runs LRMR, the agency which until now had represented Manziel in endorsement deals.
“I will continue to support and advise him as a friend,” Carter said. “However, because Johnny needs to focus on personal growth, the next phase of his career and because LRMR continues to expand beyond marketing, we made the mutual decision that it was best to terminate our business relationship.”
Shortly thereafter, Manziel’s agent Eric Burkhardt terminated his representation.
It is with deep regret that, after several emotional and very personal discussions with his family, his doctors, and my client himself, I have made the decision to terminate my professional relationship with Johnny Manziel.
Though I will remain a friend and Johnny supporter, and he knows I have worked tirelessly to arrange a number of professional options for him to continue to pursue, it has become painfully obvious that his future rests solely in his own hands. His family and I have gone to great lengths to outline the steps we feel he must take to get his life in order. Accountability is the foundation of any relationship, and without it, the function of my work is counterproductive.
I truly wish the best for Johnny and sincerely hope he can, and will, find the kind of peace and happiness he deserves.
These are some of the people who were most invested in Johnny Manziel and his career aspirations and none of them could continue to be involved with him. Even as his name carries enough social weight and value to drive headlines all across the nation, his out-of-control behavior has been at odds with any of the stated career goals for which agents and managers aspire to achieve.
Johnny Manziel finds himself on an island. There might be another agent or manager waiting to try and take a shot at helping the troubled quarterback, but as Manziel burns through people, it’s hard to imagine the quality of the opportunities or representation gets any better as it moves along.

Manziel knows he doesn’t have what it takes to play in the NFL. He’s afraid.

Occurs to me (hopefully the last thing that does about Johnny) that his personal wealth makes him impervious to an important agent threat: you’re about outta money, son, and no one’s giving you more now. And maybe this is why Josh Gordon is always hanging around. His second round paychecks stopped with suspensions, and that original bonus money must be long gone.
Other than Keith Richards, few can fool us into thinking addictions fueled by an endless money streams are remotely attractive lifestyle. If Johnny’s trust didn’t already vest then maybe Daddy Manziel cutting the stream is the only thing that might save his life yet.
Every time it appears that Manziel might have hit rock bottom, he manages to go even lower.
Man you know it’s bad when Rosenhaus dumps you.
“On March 11, 2016, The Cleveland Browns cut Johnny after paying him $7,707,913 in salary”
…..And that’s not counting endorsement deals, the kid has a long way to go before “outta money” becomes a reality.

Whether or not Johnny has run through tons of money with his private plane trips and his entourage expenses, I think you missed my point. Which is the same as yours.
Mea culpa…re-read your comment and see what you were saying about the “agent threat” and it being hollow.
