Stipe Miocic vs. Fabricio Werdum, Will Smith, Jordan Spieth and Johnny Manziel – WFNY Podcast #481
April 11, 2016Seed Numero Uno: Hawks-Cavs, Behind the Box Score
April 12, 2016Remember that whole “no news is bad news” thing regarding Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon’s potential reinstatement? Turns out that said edict may have rung true as multiple reports are circulating on Monday afternoon stating that the incredibly talented and incredibly frustrating wideout submitted a diluted drug test roughly one month ago.
While this seems like an easy non-starter for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, it appears that there are some glimmer of hope that the suspended receiver could still be reinstated.
Here’s FOX Sports’ Mike Garafolo:
The suspended Cleveland Browns wide receiver, who missed the entire 2015 season after testing positive for alcohol, failed an NFL-administered drug test last month, sources have told FOX Sports.
Gordon’s sample, which was collected in early March, tested positive for marijuana and dilute, according to a source informed of the results of the test. The source added that both the “A” and “B” samples collected were positive for marijuana and dilute. Though the level of marijuana was below the 35 nanograms per milliliter required for a positive test, the diluted sample is considered a positive test. …
He applied for reinstatement in February and, if all went well, could have been reinstated within 60 days. However, the league has said Goodell wasn’t required to make a decision within that timeframe and it’s clear now the positive test has at least given him and the experts who evaluate Gordon’s case pause.
Gordon, the NFL’s 2013 receiving leader, has been suspended for the last year, but was reportedly looking forward to reconnecting with recently signed quarterback Robert Griffin III, his former teammate at Baylor.
Those close to Gordon, including fellow FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer, had praised the receiver for improved focus and determination to not just get back on the football field, but become the play maker he was when he earned himself a trip to the Pro Bowl. Regardless of the outcome, this is a troubling report merely from a decision-making standpoint as Gordon was well aware of the ramifications and severity of any misstep.
#Browns WR Josh Gordon did fail another drug test a month ago, as @MikeGarafolo said. Explains why he hasn't been reinstated yet.

Recent reports have circulated surrounding Gordon living with former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel in Los Angeles, this despite Manziel stating he’s living with Denver Broncos edge rusher Von Miller. Manziel, meanwhile, has been reportedly partying five-to-six nights per week on L.A.’s Sunset Avenue.
This report has yet to be confirmed by the team. When asked about Gordon earlier this month, Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson stated that it would be “premature for me to talk about that because he hasn’t been reinstated.”
So how can the receiver be reinstated? Well, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, these sort of issues simply delay the process and the league will now allow for another two-to-three months of red flag-free actions before ruling on Gordon’s future.
Josh Gordon's potential reinstatement will be delayed until NFL feels comfortable he has 60-90 days of no red-flag tests, per league source.

So if all goes well and if Josh Gordon stays clean – big ifs – he could be reinstated to play the 2016 season.

For what it’s worth, Gordon does not appear too fazed by the reports.

Well. Free to do whatever he wants now. Smoke it up, kid. Hope your art career is as lucrative as your NFL career could have been.

I know how this will go. Another indefinite suspension (double secret suspension?)followed by “I’m a changed man” campaign; some auto sales; perhaps a new tattoo; a WFNY article warming us up to the idea that he’s changed and has grown up; a photo of his new and improved abs; a reminder of his 2013 stats as a teaser; and next year at this time we will renew hope that he will be reinstated, like fools cheering for a fool to make a wise decision; and then in the 11th hour on the way to meet Goodell he’ll burn one down. This is the prophesy.
Edit: or he will get cut tomorrow.
The fact that he reportedly tested positive IN MARCH is just so Brownsianesque.

Living with Manziel… writing was on the wall.
Gordon also said on Twitter “Call me if you need a real story”. So I have no idea how he thinks this isn’t a big deal… unless he’s already moved on from the idea of playing football as a career.
i always thought it was “no news is GOOD news” … yes , i was hoping he’d come back clean , focused & determined … it doesn’t look like that will ever happen … just get rid of him already.
are we going to have to hold on to him because he is suspended ??
No joke. Hasn’t Gordon’s problem from the beginning been that he has surrounded himself with bad influences? Is there one worse than that cancer, Manziel?
Shhhh…don’t stir up the Manzielots.
I don’t know what it means that Gordon is pooh-poohing this on twitter, but I assume that at least something happened and the reports aren’t completely erroneous. I also assume that if it’s true that will end any appetite the Browns have for hanging on to him and he’ll be cut. Perhaps we’ll have to wait until after the futile appeal, though.
Hell, he is the wall.
Actually, I think his problem from the beginning is that he’s an idiot; surrounding himself with bad influences is but one example.
“So I have no idea how he thinks this isn’t a big deal…”
This has been the issue at every turn.
I’m pretty sure they can cut him while suspended. My guess is that this regime views every player as capital and will work to the Nth degree to redeem some value out of each. There’s really nothing gained by cutting him now and if there’s even the remotest chance they can get ANYTHING for him from another team if he’s reinstated they’ll just let him sit in the corner until the league acts.
The rumor that Manziel is partying five to six nights a week in L.A. is likely false. He’s definitely a seven-nights-a-week guy.
I think it means that after EVERYTHING he’s been through the light bulb is permanently burned out and it ain’t ever coming on.
Justin Blackmon’s rights are still obtained by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
There is no reason to cut him as it doesn’t hurt the Browns to hold onto his rights. It just brings ire to us from time-to-time when news pops up.
But, Gordon has pooh-poohed every step of the way. Just college immaturity, just a cold medicine, just a beer. I pray he figures out what he wants in life.
Everytime I see Manziel’s name pop up on a news feed these days, I fear reading the words that come after it. When it says “partying” I’m a bit relieved as he hasn’t seemed to have pulled out of his downward spiral yet.
He has weed tattooed on his body.
I think he knows what he wants.
now i’m hearing if gordon can stay clean for the next 60-90 days they may consider reinstatement … maybe that’s why he’s being a little smug over the whole thing.
To have gone 365 days doing everything right and then blow it at the 11th hour with everything on the line as he’s about to cross the finish line…”smug” would be the absolute poster child of not getting it to add another 60-90 days of evaluation.
So, what impact if any on roster? No impact? Hold him for free?
That is a Buckeye leaf man

I might fall for that if we were talking about Bosa…
This suggests the failed test was iffy. I can’t imagine them reinstating him after a couple of months if it’s a clear violation, especially considering his most recent year long suspension was due to alcohol and not even the sticky-icky. It sounds like he was below threshold AND right on the edge for dilute. They’re delaying his reinstatement because they feel like he was behaving badly, but it’s not technically a positive test.
My theory: Gordon is truly not an addict, but also truly a raging idiot. He got popped for secondhand smoke once before due to the ridiculously low thresholds, so instead of avoiding people who smoke he’s abstaining AND diluting while still hanging out in rooms full of dank. The frequency of testing means it would be awfully tough for him to actually be smoking and only have those trace levels in his system. I still think the NFL testing protocol and thresholds are a bit ridiculous, but seriously, how dumb can you be? Is Johnny breathing it in his face just to screw the Browns one more time?
Yessir…

good post WOOF …
at the same time, it would say something to me that a guy still hangs out with his friends but doesn’t smoke even when they do. I would hope the friends used better judgment, but I would be slightly impressed with Josh if he were able to abstain in front of such temptation. I can’t blame him as much as i would blame his friends in a situation like that. How can you tell a guy to ditch his lifelong buddies? you can’t.
Anything outside of that, I’m not sure i have much support for.
