Vonny Manziel, Mag Art, and LeBron’s lifetime deal with Nike: While We’re Waiting…
April 11, 2016C-Cap Recap: Danks, Drones, & Shawmageddon
April 11, 2016Hindsight will forever be 20-20, but following the Cleveland Cavaliers close loss to the Chicago Bulls Saturday night, Cavs star LeBron James admitted that he wished guard Matthew Dellavedova would have passsed to him for a potential game-winning three-point shot instead of shooting it himself.
According to cleveland.com’s Chris Haynes.
“I definitely would have loved to been in that position after it got swung to Kev [Love] and to [Matthew] Delly. I wish that was me for sure. One more swing. Selfishly, I wish I had a look at it the way I was shooting the ball tonight. But Delly left it short.”
In the event you missed the final seconds, with the wine and gold trailing by three, guard J.R. Smith was fouled after he secured a defensive rebound. With eight seconds remaining, he missed the first free-throw and intentionally missed the second. After the miss, he got his own rebound and instead of going up for a layup, he kicked it out to big-man Kevin Love who then swung it to Matthew Dellavedova for a wide-open three-pointer that would have given the Cavaliers a one-point lead with seconds remaining.
Unfortunately for Cleveland, Delly air-balled the three-pointer and the Cavs ended up losing the game by three.

Looking back, Dellavedova was the worst Cavalier shooting beyond the arc that game, making just 1-of-5 attempts. But, in the season so far, he has been lethal, making 41.3 percent—best on the team. Although he struggled Saturday night, it wasn’t that bad of a shot to take when you consider history and the fact that he was wide open.
Looking at the Vine above, you can see that following Delly receiving the pass, James moved out behind the three-point line at the center of the court. Would he have been as wide open as Delly? Who knows. Would he have made the three that would have given the Cavs a one-point lead? Who knows.
While the guard struggled from beyond the arc Saturday night, No. 23 had a hot-hand, making 4-of-5 shots from deep, which was part of the reason why he admitted that he desperately wanted the ball and the chance to make the game-winner with just seconds remaining.
But, what’s done is done. Delly air-balled a potential game-winning wide-open three-pointer instead of swinging it around to James. While LeBron may have said that he wished Dellavedova would have passed him the ball now, would he have said the same thing if guard made the shot? Probably not. Either way, with just two games remaining in the regular season, the Cavaliers own the top spot in the Eastern Conference and their “real season” is about to begin following Wednesday night’s regular season finale.
