Ball Played: Doves cry as Indians lose in Twin Cities
April 26, 2016Peter King has Browns taking OT Ronnie Stanley, trading back into first round for QB — again
April 26, 2016With the NFL Draft a little over 48 hours away, the Cleveland Browns seem to be prepared for what’s to come. After trading their No. 2 overall pick and acquiring Philadelphia’s eighth-overall selection, among other picks as well, Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown made it clear at the Browns Draft Preview Special that the team’s big board is set and they know who they will pick if everything goes as planned.
“We’re set, locked in, know who we’ll be taking. And if that player’s not there, or if we get another offer that just blows our socks off, we’ll know how to react to that,”
Keep in mind. this will be this new regime’s first draft together here in Cleveland. With head coach Hue Jackson and this new-look front office, they seem to be prepared and know what they are doing, at least pre-draft. Wherein this same group was cast in an unprepared light at the start of free agency, they appear to be prepared for every scenario that could occur Thursday night, whether it be that their player is taken or they trade down yet again.
“Stay calm and keep an open mind. And then make great decisions, go into the draft knowing the players that you want, have conviction and don’t worry about the ‘what might’ve been’ but just make the best possible decision for yourself. Be prepared for every type of scenario that might come up. That’s what we’re going through now. …
“These last couple of days for us are really about testing ourselves if so and so calls, or if this player is no longer available and making sure that we have a good understanding of how we’ll react, how we think about it, what choices we want to make and what tradeoffs those opportunities, pros and cons, provide for us. We just got out of quite a long session with our leadership team and Hue to talk through a lot of those scenarios and we’ll do that once again before Thursday night.”
Whether it’s a quarterback, defensive end, running back, or any other position, it will be interesting to see what the Browns’ big board looks like once everything comes to fruition. One major difference that this new-look front office seems to have than other regimes seems to be that they will not focus on just one player or position, but they will take the best player available, no matter what position that player is.
“We don’t want to get to a place where we’re thinking of the current needs of the roster and pass over better football players. So you take the guy you feel like can best impact you winning and we certainly feel like that’s kind of our mantra and our central theme. Sometimes position does play into that decision and we’re not blind to what the roster is. But at the same time, we’re not going to take a worse player because we’re already set or we have less of a need.”
For a roster that needs yet another makeover, selecting the best player available seems to be a smart move on their part. For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Todd McShay has the Browns taking Oregon defensive lineman DeForest Buckner with the No. 8 pick in his latest mock draft. Be sure to check out WFNY’s own Joe Gilbert’s Big Board as well.
The draft is set to begin Thursday night, with Round 1 Thursday, beginning at 8 p.m. ET; rounds 2-3 are on Friday, April 29, beginning at 7 p.m. ET; and rounds 4-7 will be Saturday, April 30, starting at noon ET.

I miss Farmer. I miss the “Put it all on Black” approach to the draft he had. Have a plan and stick to it? Who does that? Sashi is boring.
Well, I’ve got good news for you. Andrew Berry said on “Hey Tony” that he has never once looked at one of Grossi’s mock drafts, so I think we may be in good hands here.

Texts from Sashi just doesn’t have the same ring.
Kyle needs to do one more of those… Ray Farmer trying to get back into the game with some texts to Hue and the HBT.
If the no one in this front office receives a league suspension you cannot tell me this is “same ol’ Browns.” Big shoes to fill, baby. Yuuuuge.
sounds to me like the boys are prepared & ready for a change in the plan , if necessary … i think they took a bad rap for being “unprepared” in free-agency … this is a total rebuild , where free-agency is barely on the radar for these guys … all their chips are on the next 2 drafts , now that they hold two 1st round picks next year.
GO HBT !!!!
let’s go already !!!!
My prediction would be they trade down, add at least a low #2, then take one of the OL or WR. If they stay, I think they take a DL.
Dare I hope… http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2513/3693380047_11a512fef5.jpg?v=0
“Hue, buddy, hire me back. Please, I’ll do anything. I’ll even scout WRs.”
I was thinking the same thing. This years WR class is pretty dull but we need some answers there.
No backup other than gut, and various articles, but something tells me they want to bail the #8 for the #15 and some more picks.
If the Browns could somehow win a World Football Championship, I would be able to die a happy man.
i agree. and if they could get Treadwell there, I would be ecstatic.
