2016 NFL Draft: Categorical, ridiculous draft grades for the Browns
May 2, 2016Battling the Birds: Cavaliers – Hawks Eastern Conference Semifinals Preview
May 2, 2016While 32 NFL teams were celebrating the arrival of their draft picks, the Ohio State Buckeyes football team was busy setting records in the NFL Draft to celebrate themselves. After tying a school record with five first-round selections Thursday night, the team had seven players picked rounds 2-7 Friday night and Saturday afternoon, giving them 12 players selected in the 2016 NFL Draft:
First Round
- No. 3 – DE Joey Bosa to the San Diego Chargers
- No. 4 – RB Ezekiel Elliott to the Dallas Cowboys
- No. 10 – CB Eli Apple to the New York Giants
- No. 16 – OT Taylor Decker to the Detroit Lions
- No. 20 – LB Darron Lee to the New York Jets
Second Round
- No. 47 – WR Michael Thomas to the New Orleans Saints
- No. 61 – SAF Vonn Bell to the New Orleans Saints
Third Round
- No. 80 – DT Adolphus Washington to the Buffalo Bills
- No. 85 – WR Braxton Miller to the Houston Texans

NFL Draft Records
The Buckeyes set an NFL record with 10 picks in the first three rounds and tied an NFL record with seven picks in the first two rounds (USC Trojans’ 2008 class and Tennessee Volunteers’ 2000 class). The 10 selections broke Tennessee’s record of eight in the first three rounds in 2000.
Incredibly, Ohio State had at least one player from each position group taken in the draft (outside of specialists). With so many groups, it is truly impressive to have such a well-balanced and talented group.
While it was a tremendous string of three days for head coach Urban Meyer and the rest of his former players, unfortunately two of the nine players who decided to leave school early to declare for the draft did not get selected: Jalin Marshall and Tyvis Powell. Marshall (New York Jets) and Powell (Seattle Seahawks) will still get the opportunity to continue their football career though as they signed with teams as undrafted free agents. Senior Chase Farris (Lions) was also signed after not being selected giving the Buckeyes 15 rookies across the NFL.
With so much talent selected into the NFL, Meyer and the rest of the coaching staff will have their hands full with a young – but talented – group of players heading into the 2016 season.

That was fun to watch, particularly on Day 2, with Urban at the NFL Network desk (and Michigan Man . What a wonderful recruiting tool.
While the staff does have their hands full, the 2016 Spring Game was enormously encouraging, particularly w/r/t the WRs and defensive backs. Despite the mass NFL exodus, the team is in great shape. (Oklahoma is scary, though.)
Was disappointed for Tyvis Powell, but glad to see him in Seattle. Never understood Marshall’s decision to leave (unless it had to do with other factors). Wish him the best, anyway.
All those Buckeyes and so few Wolverines – just as it was meant to be. I enjoyed seeing Urban Meyer enjoy his players success while Rich Eisen (U of M alum) could only look on in awe.
