Tyronn Lue Is a Bad M—–F—–
May 10, 2016Craig Sager is the real NBA MVP: While We’re Waiting…
May 11, 2016In VICE Sports’ latest “Ride Along”, the burgeoning media outlet was able to spend some quality time with Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith, going through the streets of Beverly Hills, California. During the four-and-a-half-minute video, one which kicks off with the swingman having to pick up a call from LeBron James, Smith was able to detail some of his life’s biggest moments, most of which involved basketball.
Whether it was playing in China for a few months during the NBA Lockout (“because they offered me a sh— ton of money..”), playing with Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks, being traded from the Knicks to the Cavs in January, 2015, or his tattoos, Smith was candid throughout.
“The trade from New York to Cleveland I was pissed, honestly … I was pissed because I couldn’t play with my best friend anymore.” …
“I feel extremely fortunate to play with two of the best players to ever play the game.”
Throughout his NBA career, Smith has been known as a pure shooter, no matter what team he is playing for. In helping his team tie an NBA playoff series’ record with 77 three-pointers in the series finale against the Hawks or setting an all-time NBA record with 25 threes in a single game, the 30-year-old has been one of the team’s best shooters from the outside so far. While averaging 12.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in eight playoff games this season, Smith has shot 47.8 percent from the field and an impressive 50.8 percent from beyond the arc.

But, even though he has been lights out from three-point range, the sharpshooter admitted that it doesn’t matter whether he has a single shot or plays well, as long as his team wins. Even when Smith isn’t hitting his shots from the outside, opposing teams still have to worry about his scoring ability from three-point land, allowing his other teammates to have more open shots.
“I believe I’m the difference as a teammate, not so much whether I hit threes or defend. Whether it’s playing 40 minutes and not scoring or playing 40 minutes and scoring all the points, I just want to win”
But, after opening up about his pre-Cavaliers basketball career along with his time in Cleveland, Smith admitted that the 2015-16 version of this Cavaliers team is a special one and one that he hopes can bring The Land it’s first championship since 1964.
“In my eyes, I think we’re going to win the championship.”
And if the Cavs do win it all, Smith will have played a substantial role in their success, already helping them get to the Eastern Conference Finals without a blemish on their playoff record.

I am sorry to say that many, many wiser prognosticators would advise Smith that he should go quickly to a good ophthalmologist and get his eyes examined.

One never really knows who’s going to win the NBA Championship except when your PG and PF go down with injuries like they did last year. But that even was in doubt as the Cavs still took two from the Warriors. IF the Cavs stay healthy, they’ve won the ship. I don’t see any other team in their way.
