Ball Played: Indians’ Stipe night a rousing success
May 18, 2016Film Room: New Browns Edge Rusher Emmanuel Ogbah
May 18, 2016After hinting their arrival for much of the last two weeks, the Ky-Rispy Kreme truck made its way to Cleveland, Ohio to be the first of several stops on their tour to drop a new sneaker in several key markets. In a collab with Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the folks at Nike Basketball activated an entirely new colorway of Kyrie Irving’s signature sneaker, Nike’s Kyrie 2, complete with the gym red and rage green accents that mimic that of the box that typically houses one of the country’s most popular glazed pastries.
The release was supposed to occur a week or so ago, but the Cavaliers’ quick work of the Atlanta Hawks was a bit of a curve ball. Keeping their hands back, Nike made shifty work of the itinerary, and altered course for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The scene outside of Quicken Loans Arena was much crazier than anticipated with Fan Fest Gates not opening until 5 p.m., but folks lining up for their shot at the $165 sneaker as early as 8 a.m. The fan who purchased the first pair, Dalton from Toledo, Ohio, left his home at 5:30 a.m., equating to a 12-hour window between departure and getting his hands on the sneakers—not even accounting for the two-hour drive back.
WFNY did not get their hands on a pair, but was able to get some access to shoot the video above. Fans who did not land a pair on Tuesday can still get theirs for a limited time on NIKE iD—sweet doughnut box not included—with six other color schemes available for customization. Images of the shoe in it’s red and green glory can be found below.
