Daniel Gibson: Out For Game 6
This one could wind up being a huge blow to the Cavaliers, as our star-shaven version of instant offense in Daniel Gibson will miss Friday’s Game 6 against the Boston Celtics thanks to a seperated shoulder.
We all know that Gibson missed a string of games this season (Feb. 21 – Mar. 28) thanks to an ankle injury – a span that saw the team go 10-8. This made finding a rotation difficult, and resulted in Gibson losing a slew of minutes. If there’s any saving grace in this news, it’s that Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West have locked in to their respective starting roles and Sasha Pavlovic appears to be fully recovered from his foot injury to provide any needed depth.
Would I be crazy to think that the injury to Gibson’s shoulder could open the door for you know who to log some playing time?

Sorry guys, as I said before I dont have TNT so I was watching the liveblog for updates. I ended up falling asleep right around halftime causing me to drop my kickball… I blame the loss on that. It somehow makes it more bearable.

DJ definitely deserves some pt. maybe not as much as gibson had been getting but significant time none the less. Why the hell not? I’m going out on a limb and say that only one of Sasha and Wally will have a good game, if that. So we will need some perimeter shooting. DJ can guard Rondo as well as anyone since we give him so much space. Why the hell not

Um, Damon Jones can’t do what Delonte West was doing for most of the series. It’s one thing to say that we’re leaving Rondo alone, it’s another to use West as an extra trap man that has the ability to block shots.
I doubt they will continue to leave Rondo alone if he is going to be aggressive like in game 5.

This actually opens the door for Devin Brown, not Damon Jones

How sad am I? So sad. Once you separate a Boobie from his shoulder, bad bad things happen. I’m holding my breath for a Damon sighting.

I agree with Rick that DJ can’t do what West does. No doubt about that. Their skill sets are COMPLETELY different. But I think I understand what Ricky is saying. In my opinion, part of the Cavaliers’ problem on defense in the 2nd half in Game 5 was that they panicked when Rondo hit those two 3s and started using West to try to pressure him and stop him from shooting, which allowed Rondo to get by him to get into the lane. I think Ricky’s point was that the best way to defend Rondo is to give him space to shoot and sag off of him to cut the lanes. Basically, what Boston is doing to LeBron. And I think DJ can do that decently enough.
But the point in all of this is that the reason I’ve been screaming for DJ to get playing time is because of his offense. The guy was hitting big 3 after big 3 all season for us, and now that we desperately need that kind of spark, Mike Brown refuses to even TRY using and see. The fact is, we don’t know if DJ can do decently enough on defense to warrant him playing until we actually see it.

I think Devin Brown could stay with Rondo defensively…
