While We’re Waiting… 2000 and Counting, Big Z’s Rest, and the Drama-free Cavaliers

While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

happy-2000-osu-umHappy 2000, folks.  That’s right, it has officially been 2000 days since Ohio State lost a football game to the University of Michigan.  That’s what happens after five straight W’s.  The image to the right is all thanks to the counter that has been displayed at the Columbus Dispatch.  As Eleven Warriors points out, it seems like an eternity since John Navarre (remember him?) knocked off  the Buckeyes to take the Big Ten championship.  Just imagine how long it must feel for the other guys…

There may be no bigger beneficiary of all of the rest between the recent playoff series than Zydrunas Ilgauskas:  “Ilgauskas — nursing a sore ankle and shoulder — is thrilled with the extra time to recover after sweeping Atlanta out of the conference semifinals, and to get ready for what he figures will be a much tougher series.” [Mary Schmitt Boyer/Plain Dealer]

Fun fact: Jhonny Peralta is 8-for-17 since being benched last week.

♪♪♪♪ Echo fading, he can’t let go/she goes walking by in slow-mo: “Players who have already graduated or will graduate before May 16 can join their teams May 16. [...] Ohio State holds its graduation June 14, preventing Cardinals first-round choice Chris “Beanie” Wells from participating in organized team activities (OTAs). The result: Wells won’t participate in a Cardinals practice before training camp. He can report to the team after final exams.”  [Mike Sando/ESPN]

“Other NBA playoff series have drama: The defending champs get pushed to the limit in one of the most memorable playoff series ever, then find themselves in a slugfestwith the upstart Magic. The presumptive champs in L.A. can’t beat an undersized Rockets team with an undrafted 6-foot-6 center. The Mavs have no chance, but at least they are going out guns blazing, with controversy and trash-talk. [...] There is no “amazing” happening with these Cavs. Just winning. They might even be considered uncool, in their buzzsaw approach to the playoffs. Let the other teams have their drama. The Cavs will merely wait for the next drained opponent, then cut them down, too.” [Dan Shanoff/TSB]

And a little more on The Ghost: “Now I think we can all agree that Pavlik was probably at about 85% or so during his systematic dismantling of Rubio in February, so it’s not to say that he can’t fight when he’s not at his best. No, more to the point is that there’s no need to risk his not being ready.  Why not, you may ask? That’s easy: October.  Pavlik supporters all remember October when a bronchitis-and-bursitis-ridden Kelly Pavlik was absolutely routed in a timeless performance by Bernard Hopkins in A.C. The beating he took was so thorough that some experts wondered out loud if Pavlik would’ve been beaten at 100% by Hopkins (personally, I think he would’ve; Hopkins was flat-out ridiculous that night, but you’re not exactly talking to Bert Sugar, here).” [Sons of Nev]

    3EB reference – NICE!!!

I like that Z prefers to watch the Discovery channel over the playoffs. Maybe he’s watching Time Warp. The one with the sharpshooter was awesome.

I’m pretty sure that is the first time Shanoff didn’t bash a team from Ohio.
