I’m sure Lakers fans love this one more than the first, but LeBronPuppet steals it with that closing line.
I really wish they would try a little harder to get the voices even close though.
This commercial is just an extension of the “why we hate boston” fan post from awhile back about how it isn’t what your team did and how many rings/championship pennants you have which make you awful awful fans, but what your team is doing currently…

Echoing Rick’s comment, I found the voice actors lacking. I mean, they aren’t even close. What’s more, the puppets look like generic molds that were simply fitted with a few accessories. Halfhearted, again. The commercial strains its comic idea to annoyance, and the final, tepid line is all that saves it from the viewer’s disdain.

Methinks some folks take commercials far too seriously. How many national ad campaigns involving Cleveland athletes have we seen in the past, oh, 50 years? It’s a 30-second attempt to sell shoes, not Wilson’s Fourteen Points–let’s not get too critical.
Now, as for the Geico money commercials, those just plain suck.
B-bo: right, it’s not important, it’s just a commercial. But neither is WFNY, or LeBron James, or the NBA, or the game of basketball, when compared to the issue of international peace.
Within those obvious limitations, if someone posts a video or other material at WFNY, the assumption is that others are invited to post their opinions of it, no? Unless, that is, you think that a “seriousness meter” should be established to give the green light on opinion sharing.
But if that’s what it’s going to come to, the whole site might as well just be shut down.

Just guessing, but I think David Alan Grier is Kobe, and Kenan Thompson is LeBron. Both are fine voice actors – so that’s probably what Nike was going for more than actually matching their voices to the players. And I thought the second commercial was still funny, even if it had more of a Kobe “slant.” You really didn’t think all four of the commercials were going to be like the first one, did you?
I’m looking forward to seeing the next two. And I will be laughing like hell if they’re due to be released during the Conference Finals, and Kobe’s Lakers have been eliminated. Nike probably would bury them then, but I’m sure they’d make their way to youtube or something.

All three I’ve seen are great. If you don’t like them, you clearly don’t have any sense of humor. Who cares if the voices aren’t close?! 99.9% of commercials are complete drivel; enjoy the good ones.
This is for all of you who said “Kobe wouldn’t be in the finals” and “he has not stepped up to be the superstar that he is”…I guess LeBron will be waiting for 2010!
