Been Nice Knowing You Julio…

“The Indians are showing signs of life for the first time in weeks. They appear to be beating the crap out of each other.”

In the middle of the Indians melt down at the hands of the White Sox, Jorge Julio and Victor Martinez had a disagreement on the mound. No fists were thrown unfortunately. Soon after Jorge crossed Martinez up, throwing a fastball when Victor was clearly expecting a breaking ball. The ball landed about 400 feet away, a home run for Jermaine Dye. It wouldn’t surprise me if we’ve seen the last of Julio here in Cleveland. Of course, he has one of the better ERA’s in the bullpen. Perhaps the Tribe’s all-star catcher will make amends with the reliever. Who knows. Another line from Major League 2 applies to this team as well-

“You have no Marbles!”

Wouldn’t you love to see this team get fired up about something? Wouldn’t you love one of the starters to throw a Gatorade cooler on the field when they lose 2-1 or 3-2? I would. I’d love for anyone on this team to show just a little bit of ‘give a crap’. Instead we watch a 1-0 game hoping for a shutout. In the middle of the 6th, with the Tribe up 2-0 I was thinking we needed at least one more run, because the bullpen is good for 1 run per inning worked. I figured Byrd would last into the 7th and the Tribe could win 3-2. I was wrong. Instead the White Sox exploded on Byrd, Julio and Breslow. The game isn’t officially over yet. But we all know better. I’m going to bed.

You know, I was watching in the top of the sixth and I saw Vic not leg out that broken bat ground ball, and I thought “He’s getting paid the same regardless of whether he beats that or not”. And that was a very depressing thought. You’re absolutely right, there doesn’t seem to be any effort anywhere on the part of the hitters.

Well I can see why Vic would be upset as a hitter – he’s one of the only guys hitting consistently… No reason to take it out on Julio though, the game was long gone at that point.

This might be the hardest team to watch in baseball on a given night. Great performances (mostly) from your starting pitchers. But the offense is like watching a bunch of hot stove kids trying to hit Randy Johnson in his prime. The ups and downs of any given night make me want to puke.
