MadLibs, Anyone?

MadLibs SportsWhite Sox 3, Indians 1 (box)

I’m really at a loss for words at this point.  I mean, how many times – in a row, mind you – can we come here and talk about the same thing.  I almost feel like copying and pasting the same statements from the last few Tribe recaps, and simply supplanting names.  It would not only save us all a few minutes of reading, but could actually be somewhat of a flashback to the gradeschool days.

Here, let’s try this:

Another tough loss by the Indians last night, despite an incredibly strong pitching effort from ____(1)____.  ___(1 – Last name only)____ only allowed __(2)__ hits, while striking out __(3)__ in ___(4)___ innings of work.  Unfortunately, the bats were asleep once again as they were only able to muster _(5)_ hits of their own.  The team average now stands at a dreadful __(6)__, good enough for __(7)__-last in the league.

Now that we have this template on “paper,” let’s enter the missing words.

1) Aaron Laffey
2) Six
3) Six
4) Seven
5) Two
6) .231
7) Dead

See, now wasn’t that fun?  And just think of all of the time it will save us in the future!

Meanwhile, we made Mark Buehrle look like Nolan Ryan.  Coming into the game, the lefty had a WHIP of about 1.45 – meaning that we should get about one and a half walks/hits per inning.  You know, baserunners?  Well, being the statistical rebels that we are, the Indians manged to get a whopping six men on base over the course of Buehrle’s seven innings.  Needless to say, that WHIP will be coming down a bit.

The 3-4-5 combination of Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez and Ryan Garko combined to go 0-for-8 with two strikeouts and three men left on base.  See, the beauty of never having base runners is that you can’t strand someone who isn’t there to begin with.  It’s all in the strategy.  Now excuse me while I go jump into the gigantic hole of construction that is Euclid Avenue.
