June 10, 2009Indians Muster Four Hits, Get Shutout by Royals
June 11, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
WFNY- The Beverage! We received several tips about Great Lakes Brewing Company’s newest mix WIT Till Next Year– “True Cleveland sports fans are very familiar with this phrase, so do we really need to say any more? (By the way, this beer is a special Wit fairly similar to Holy Moses White Ale).” Great Lakes Brewing Co.

The odds are not in the Cavs’ favor for finding help in the draft.- “Late first round (21-30) only 6% of picks become stars, and less than half even make it to role player caliber stats.” 82Games.com

Browns’ draft pick Don Carey sounds like the type of guy you want on the team- “As soon as I go home, I’m right in my books until I go to sleep,” Carey said. “The more I know, the better chance I have of being on the field.” Browns.com/ (Follow Don’s Twitter)

Joe Thomas trails only Matt Ryan and Mario Williams for Fox’s Best Franchise Players Under 30- “The game’s best young offensive lineman plays in Cleveland. With the perfect anonymous name playing the game’s most anonymous division, Thomas (turns 25 this season) has had as good a first two seasons as any “big ugly” could dream of – finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2007 (behind only Adrian Peterson) while not allowing a sack the entire year, then following it with another Pro Bowl campaign in Year Two. Whoever plays QB in Cleveland won’t have to worry about any blindside hits for at least another decade.” Fox Sports

Finally, some interesting behind the scenes stories from Cavs’ beat writer Bob Finnan- “(Mike) Brown sometimes gets a gut feeling on whether he should play a certain player. These epiphanies usually come when he is ironing his shirt before games (he brings two irons with him).
On this day, he’s trying to figure out whether to reinsert Wally Szczerbiak back into his rotation, which he maps out on his playing-time sheet.
“While I’m ironing my shirt, in my stomach, I get this gut feel whether or not I should plug Wally onto that sheet,” Brown said.
“Are you sure that’s not gas?” I ask.” The News Herald/(Hat Tip- ’64 and Counting.)

Sounds like Mike Brown should speak with Romeo Crennel about that issue. Maybe he could add coin flips to his routine. If that does not work, a little rock, paper, scissors could help him too…
Well, at least we now know what the official NK beverage is now!
“the official NK beverage is now!”
Brewery only. Which means we may all have to watch the MNF game this year in their basement pub. Sign me up!
Hate to bring this up, but didn’t most people consider Jake Long better than Joe Thomas? I believe Long ousted Thomas on the Big 10 team 2 years ago when Thomas was older than Long….
isnt college different than the pros?
