Quinn vs. Anderson: Respect or Misleading?
June 8, 2009The Greatest Cleveland Play by Play Men of the Past 30 Years
June 8, 2009By now, you have likely seen Brian Windhorst’s list of three potential free agent additions for the Cavaliers.
We touched on Charlie Villanueva last week. We’ve discussed Jason Kidd ad nauseum.
But the third name, Carlos Boozer, is one that may definitely raise a few eyebrows.
Here are Brian’s thoughts:
Boozer and James still have a good relationship and the former Cav has been right about one thing, he has matured into a star. He was sitting in front row seats at a Cavs-Magic game, seats that Dan Gilbert sat in the game before, so you be the judge on that. A strong low post scorer and top-shelf rebounder, he would fit in nicely. Getting him would take a sign-and-trade, and it would be hard to pull off. That and thousands of fans would freak out … until his first 20-point, 15-rebound game. Remember there is a different owner and Duke-produced GM in town now.
So what say you, Cavs fan? He’s the low post scoring option that we would love to have. Would you be willing to overlook what he did to the team a few years back if he managed to stay healthy and could consistently put up double-doubles?

its all about wining championships. i dont care about feelings. I’d welcome back that traitor with open arms.
I would absolutely love that. I wonder what it would take to pull off the trade however… My guess is that it would take Hickson, two first rounders and Gibson at least.
I’d take it, because his play (and hopefully lack of injuries) would make me forget his treachery. The trade would be very hard to pull off, and i’m not sure giving up Hickson is a good idea, but we need a championship team now.
take it, maybe we can learn to love his oddly shaped head once again
Ask a Jazz fan how excited they would be to get rid of him and THEN answer this question.
He shook Gordon Gund’s hand and then stabbed him in the back. Guy has no character and is a me first player. No thank you
Boozer and Villanueva. Winners in college. (Silly Boobie… should have stayed and played with Durant)
If Anderson wants 8 million let him go get it somewhere else and let Sasha go too. Ask Z to renegotiate. He is not worth 11 million dollars and having to manage his role every game so we can use his weak 18 foot jump shot FROM THE 5 POSITION. pitch him that if he wants to retire a cav he’s going to need to take less money.
trade Ben, Sasha, and Andy/Hickson for Boozer and Millsap… all sign and trades (which would be tough).
I like Hickson, but seriously guys.. the kid plays defense like every other 6 foot 10 guy who can jump in pickup ball. He’s nice, but he’s 20 and not mature enough to be a go to guy. GIVE ME THE DUKIEEEE
If he could stay healthy?
Absolutely.
I feel like an abused woman accepting back her p.o.s. boyfriend but absolutely without a doubt I’d accept Boozer back. Time’s nearly up with Lebron, we need to win now.
The title made me throw up in my mouth.
He has shown time and time again that he is all about the money first (hence why Utah might consider trading him). He’s only played 2 complete season’s in his 5 with Utah.
Pass, unless it’s cheap.
Denny, that is a pretty big if. That’s my only beef with him, I want our final piece to actually play. I would accept him back but once he started getting hurt all the time I would just be angry again.
He doesn’t exactly help us match up better with Orlando though. We would still own Boston, but he would fare no better than our other bigs guarding Lewis and Howard
Boozer and Millsap? That would never happen in a million years.
The Jazz want Millsap ( he’s a RFA ) for the future, and the only probable way that they will be able to keep him is if Boozer opts out. I’m fairly certain that they will do everything in their power to move Boozer so they can accomplish this.
Rather have Gooden back.
I think I’d rather have Memet Okur than Boozer. Boozer’s defense leaves a lot to be desired. I think that Utah’s system inflates power forward’s numbers. Okur is a bigger body and better shot blocker who can also spread the floor.
Grudges aren’t as strong as the desire for a championship. I’d get over it real quickly if we could get Boozer back here.
Boozer can’t play D, can he?
Rather get CV and make a Bosh play.
@#16 Ezzie “and make a Bosh play”
Here’s CLE making a Bosh play.
Ferry: (calling Bryan Colangelo)
Colangelo: (answers) Hello.
Ferry: Hi Bryan it’s Danny Ferry, I was wondering-

Put me down for a “no” to Boozer.
If this is what it takes for a championship? ABSOLUTELY!
If the only alternative is Rasheed Wallace, YES to Carlos Boozer.
send him back to Alaska
JPS3, I know what you mean. Picking between Rasheed and Boozer is like choosing between a colonoscopy and a proctological exam–it might be necessary, but it will be tough to stomach.
#22 – if your setup is “choosing between a colonoscopy and a proctological exam” – then your punchline has to be better than “it will be tough to stomach”
Come on – you can do better than that.
if we can get it done, i would consider buying a boozer or charlie villanueva jersey
thats how much i would love if they were able to make either deal happen.
i’ve said it: YES and YES again. The guy is a jerk no question about it but he can play ball and that’s what we want ont we. Plus as BW pointed it out he has a good relationship with LBJ
Boozer didn’t want to play Robin to Batman.
Hughes didn’t want to play Robin to Batman
Williams likes to be Robin.
So, Booz would agree to come back and play what part? Alfred?
I don’t really have a preference between the two players. Villanueva is 24 and getting better, but weaker on D than Booze Cruise. Carlos, on the other hand is a proven commodity (other than injuries) with a back to the basket game, strong rebounding, big body, attitude, good freethrow shooting, and a good mid range jumper. Villanueva will be cheaper. Both have ugly heads.
Either way its about time we had a big man who wanted to DOMINATE his paint. How sick did it make all of us watching Howard walk to the rim and set up shop (don’t get me started on 3-in-the-key) without anyone getting a body on him and moving him out of the post. And as sad as it is.. I’m sure Carlos Boozer is a better defender than Zydrunas or 6’6″ Ben (not quite as “Big” anymore).
It’s not going to be as easy as just dealing for Boozer. Utah’s going to want to save money and we’re going to have to take on a junk contract as well. In this case that looks like AK47, he of the 2 years remaining at $15MM annually.
Kirilenko and Boozer for Boobie, Sasha, Hickson, and Wallace works in the trade machine… Potentially you’re looking at a draft pick in there as well.
This would work for the Jazz because they save money with Wallace who’s expiring and may take a buyout and retire and Sasha who makes $4.5 but with only $1.5 of that guaranteed. Boobie and JJ both have potential.
The question is if we think adding AK47 and Boozer to the frontline in favor of Wallace (and presumably Andy) makes us better. Jury’s out in my opinion.
And for those who think we actually have any chance at adding Bosh, may I please have some of what you are smoking? Thanks.
Boozer>Sheed>Andy
And honestly, let’s get over the whole, “His defense sucks” argument. Defense is a mindset between Brown and LBJ everybody on the floor is in the right frame of mind. We heard the same crap about Mo and it took about 1 hour for him to buy in to the philosophy. I know what he did sucks, but this is for real now ladies…..championships are won by teams that comprised of good players, not necessarily people that love each other. So yeah, Sheed has a temper and Boozer backdoor’d the franchise. Get over it. Andy gives effort put has no shot and has shown that he cannot produce when he’s starting, so we are supposed to give him 7/8/9 million dollars to be a sixth man because we like his hair?
Well I like Boozer for low post scoring but would need a Villaneuva as well if replacing B.Wallace and possibly Andy or Hickson. I’d move J.Smith to the L.Wright role. However other names that may come cheaper are Jamison, Camby(B. Skinner thrown in) & Okur. I feel a need as big would be Artest or R. Jefferson to play the 2 & 3 allowing the King to go between the 3 & 4 . That of course replaces Wally & Pavlovic as well with the bigger better defender & athlete. Then try to get a backup point in either Watson or A.Parker both defensive minded. So lets see subtractions are B.Wallace, Wally, Pavlovic & one of the other Forward Andy or JJ. Additions Boozer, Villanueva, Artest & Watson or Camby, Skinner, Villanueva, Artest, A.Parker & Watson more bodies without Boozer.
FLOW clownbaby FLOW
@30,
Yep, that was a season’s worth of frustration from hearing how great “chemistry” was, 2 weeks of a horrible Orl series and 1 week of a bunch of people still crying because a pro athlete took more money to play somewhere else, Sheed is mean and Andy is good talk.
Bosh wants a max contract, and doesn’t/can’t post up anyone.
i’d definitely take boozer back. sure it sucks and we felt betrayed by what he did, but this is a business. this isn’t the days of old where your team really represented your city. That’s why we’re such freaks about Lebron because he’s one of the very few players out there who actually grew up near the city he plays for. The NBA is all a big game of cards and the season is the single card game. The same card gets shuffled and passed from one player to the next and all you hope to do is build the hand that can beat the other hands in that particular game. If Boozer works out to be the card that completes the royal flush and wins you a championship, who cares if he screwed over your previous owner. As fans, we need to stop taking stuff like that so personal. These are just guys who have contracts. When healthy, the Boozer is a beast. Just like, when focused, Charlie V is a beast. I’d still really like to go after Charlie V. though, cause it sounds like we’d have to give up nothing but money to get him, whereas we’d have to figure out some kind of funky trade to get boozer. I’d like to see either one of them though.
@Bridgecrosser – LOL
@The Other Tim – He rips the Magic everytime he plays them, and he can play D.
When is Dwight Howard a free agent?
What?!? Too soon?
Sheed > Andy
Sure, last year. Sheed is old, did you not watch the first round?
I was filled with so much hate for Boozer after he stabbed the Cavs in the back, but after watching our lack of offensive presence down low, I’d welcome Carlos back with open arms.
I kinda like what dwhit mentioned with getting Boozer and AK47. Kirelenko offers a wide variety of tools that the Cavs could greatly use, particularly on the Defensive side. His size and length would be a great asset, especially when facing Hedo and Rashard Lewis. If it costs us picks and Hickson, so be it. The time to win is now and if we are able to assemble the pieces for a championship, do it.
@Swig
Wallace didn’t care in the playoffs. He ONLY had 1 Tech! He knew the Pistons had no chance and so he wasn’t really dialed in. I doubt that would be the case in Cleveland. My only problem with him is age and somebody like Boozer or Charlie V wouldn’t be a liability in 2 years like so many others that are currently on this roster.
Carlos Boozer cannot stay healthy. He’d be great if he could stay off the injured list, and until he can do that, don’t bring him here.
I want no part of that back-stabbing piece of garbage.
put me in the no column too.
i value a championship too, but not at the sake of compromising your integrity.
Well Cle got nailed by dwight getting boozer wont adress that question.Cavs have to many players on the roster and if you look up drafts after and slightly before lebron you woud see that management has no idea how to pick a quality player.that will tell you that something needs to change up in the management or they ll never win the ring.I hope CLE gets rid of Varejao sends Ben to retire ,Wally Sze.(seriously), and gets Rasheed Wallace or McDyce and some gard who can create his own shot like von Wafer or Finley..or something
And for all of you guys who are thinking Kobe and Lebron could be next MJ…stop it.Kobe can never be Mj and Lebron can be next Kobe or better only when he gets some rings on…
I say take Boozer! i would give him to you for free!
@23 – Wasn’t meant to be funny…just illustrating the dilemma of this fan. Besides, it’s a family site!
Boozer is and would be nice, but he’ll be asking for way too much money as a guy who just missed 44 games in a contract year.
please take boozer off of our hands!! then we can aqure bosh.
I’d take Charlie V over him right now, any day.
I’d love to see him back. One of the underlying reasons people were so mad when he left was because…people loved him while he was here. It is all about winning a championship and keeping Lebron. Like Windhorst said, after his first double double the past would soon be forgotten.
@17 Funny stuff. I also hate it when people make thoughtless comments like “Go after this guy” or “make a play for that guy”. Like we’re playing NBA Live and you’re the only non-CPU GM in the entire game. Teams are not going to frivolously trade away cornerstones of their franchises so another team can build a dynasty to further crush them with! (Chris Wallace is exempt from this argument. I’m fairly certain he *is* a CPU).
So far as Boozer goes, it’s tough. The guy was fantastic when he was here, and at times he’s looked even better in Utah. But the reports of bellyaching and faked injury make me shy away. I think the well-chronicled history of his business decisions is irrelevant here. His play and health would dictate whether we have a better chance to win a championship with him, so that should be the focus.
