While We’re Waiting – Slow Buckeyes, Swing Swing Swing-men, Ohio > PA, NBA Draft prospecting

While We’re Waiting is a daily conglomeration of facts that we bring in from around the tubes for your enjoyment.  If you find something that you think we’d like, and other people with similar interest would like, send it our way.  You can do so by clicking on our tips link up above.

Please Please Pleaaaase speed it up Tress. “Ohio State can take something from those spread teams that rush to the line. In a Beanie Wells-themed offense, it made sense to be a bit more deliberate while getting ready to run the ball. But with receivers like DeVier Posey, Lamaar Thomas and Dane Sanzenbacher, I think the Buckeyes should, can and will do more with their short passing game. They have run a no-huddle at times, but if you can really focus on snapping the ball more quickly, at least in spots, to keep a defense confused and/or tired, it makes it that much easier for Terrelle Pryor to burn them with a big run.”

You mean, like, umm, nobody the Cavs have been rumored to be trading for? “The inability to handle Howard one-on-one created the majority of defensive issues for the Cavs. The issues with the swingmen were often a symptom of sending extra attention to Howard. But you are right that the Cavs need more tall perimeter defenders and that really showed up against a tall team like Orlando. So after a big man, that is the next priority. Because those players are generally easier to find, the Cavs should make an addition or two there.”

Yay, Ohio won a meaningless High School All-Star Football game against Pennsylvania!!! Yes we can!! Yes we can!!!!

At least the Cavs have some good plans for the draft.  Yikes.  “Frankly, the Cavs have no idea what will be available here. If one of the marquee point guards is still around they will have to consider it. They also have some ideas about some wing defenders. There’s a good chance they will look to trade up during the draft. ”

Say what you want, but I like the Big 33 game and take no small measure of satisfaction when Ohio wins. After all, it’s a game that isn’t about professional athletic mercenaries playing for a paycheck; it’s our home-grown boys against theirs, playing for bragging rights and state pride. This is exactly the kind of sporting event that people SHOULD get excited about.

@1 yeah it’s like what college football should be about, until all the money screwed things up

Agreed. Playing small college football in western pa where the mix was about 60/40 PA/OH, it was one of the few things we could gloat about when we won, especially since we didn’t even have a freakin professional team (not that it would have made things any better with our current one). Take pride when our homegrown (and really, representative) football talent takes it to the bigger and more man-pleasing state. These pro teams don’t in Ohio don’t get it.
