Indians Will Honor Jacobs This Season

dick-jacobsI posed the question last week- do the Indians plan on honoring their fallen former owner this season? I thought a uniform patch would be appropriate. It turns out  the Indians have something else in mind. Vince Grzegorek was able to get the Indians to comment on the situation, and here is the plan-

“We plan on honoring Mr. Jacobs in Heritage Park as an inaugural inductee into the Indians Distinguished Hall of Fame, established to honor those non-uniformed personnel who contributed significantly to the fortunes of the franchise,” DiBiasio said in an e-mail. “Induction ceremonies will be August 1. Mr. Jacobs was aware of this honor.”

So, in other words, not any more than they already had planned to do. Vince thinks the Indians should rename the park for a day, as a tribute. I think memorial patches are a tradition in baseball. If you were already planning to induct Mr. Jacobs into your hall of fame, then his passing should be marked with a different tribute. In a season where everything seems to be going wrong, why not do something right?

Rick FTW. Although, something tells me that the franchise is in a state where maybe it can’t do much right. Next thing you know, they’ll change up the mustard to plain yellow.

Yikes. I’ve always wondered what the final straw would be that makes me stop watching a Cleveland team. I’d have to say that ditching the stadium mustard might be the final straw!

if only our players seemed to care about baseball as much as we all do stadium mustard…

We should put stadium mustard on the 40-man roster and bring it out of the bullpen in key situations. It never lets you down.

I agree with all those who believe a more meaningful tribute to Jacobs is in order.

But are we really surprised that Dolan isn’t in a rush to honor the man who got him to grossly overpay for a franchise on the decline?

If he feels he was screwed, Dolan may not like Jacobs in the business arena, but Dolan wouldn’t hesitate to do the same for a prospective buyer. Or the fans.

Here’s an idea about how the Dolan family can honor the late Jacobs….

SPEND SOME MONEY LIKE JACOBS DID!!!!!!

disappointing on the part of the dolans. don’t see how they get off without a patch here.

If they were already going to do this before he passed, then this is a sorry excuse for a tribute (not that Jacobs doesn’t deserve it.). A uniform patch is definitely in order here. I would LOVE to see them rename the stadium for a day. Of course, I’d love to see them rename it permanently…

I think it should be renamed for a day, hell rename it period. Or they could get all the Indians from the glory days of the 90s to play for 1 game. I bet they would win a game at least.

Just goes to show you how this franchise is under Dolan. I fully believe NOTHING with the Tribe will change until he sells the team or croaks.
