Cavs Moves Should Be Plentiful
If there is one thing we know about the NBA draft it is that nobody knows anything. Unless you are sitting at #1 and LeBron James is there, you really couldn’t possibly know less. Joe Beast, Kwame Brown and a whole host of others should convince you of that very easily. If not those names, then how about Dajuan Wagner, Trajan Langdon, Desegana Diop and Luke Jackson? Do those do anything for you? Now, I know that none of us are expecting a lot of results from the Cavs’ not-so-coveted #30 draft pick at the end of the first round. To expect a lot from that spot would be totally unfair to Danny Ferry and the Cavs’ brass.
But knowing what we know about the draft and knowing how financially strapped some of the teams are around the NBA, I think it is a great time for the Cavs to find a way to get an additional first round pick or two. If they can find a way to pull it off, they should stock up on 4 or even 5 total first round picks should the opportunities somehow / someway present themselves. I think you almost need that many to come away with two players who can actually contribute on the NBA level.
Look, people, I didn’t say it was likely. I just said the Cavs should do it. I want them to be able to sign somebody with their mid-level exception. I want them to be able to trade away Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic. I want the Cavs to somehow add three players to the roster this season with real NBA experience between free agency and trades potentially involving Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace. On top of that though, if they could find a way to stock up on even two or three first rounders, the Cavs might find a way to rebuild their bench all in a single off-season.
Minnesota finished a trade yesterday with the Washington Wizards and now Minnesota has the numbers 5, 6, 18 and 28 in the first round. Apparently, Minnesota is thought to want to trade up with two of those picks. Depending on what happens with their trades, they might still have an extra draft pick in the first round that they might be willing to part with. Unfortunately, that extra pick might turn out to be the #28 which isn’t all that much more valuable than the Cavs’ #30.
Anyway, as you can see, predicting how it is all going to shake out is as silly as all the mock drafts that seem to guess where players are going even before all the picks have landed in the final hands of the eventual owners. All I know is that I hope the Cavs are active tonight and tomorrow so they can throw a lot of different things at the wall next year to hopefully find the next Carlos Boozer. It is about time the Cavs got some luck outside of LeBron James. I think there will be opportunities. I hope the Cavs jump on them.

How about just getting a decent big man that can play some tough D? If he can toss in 10 points a night, I think that would suffice…

I just really don’t think this is the draft to pin alot of hopes on. Outside of the top 3-4 players, it’s really rather thin in terms of guys capable of contributing anything significant right away. Of course that’s on paper, and you never know ahead of time, but I just don’t see it.

Seeing that picture of Luke Jackson made me sick…

Hmmmmm Meeks has some raw talent…but can he develop quickly enough?

Let’s creat a player with 99 everything and throw him on the cavs. He’ll be 7′6″ and move like Mugsy Bogues.

Don’t freak out even at #30. Think Mark Price, Anderson Varajao, Carlos Boozer, Ben Wallace, Charlie Villanueva … A good player will be found by someone at 30 or later. Why not us?

“Why not us?”
How long have you been a Cleveland fan, Harv 21?
