LeBron James’ Extension Can Be Offered Tomorrow

July 18, 2009While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your pleasurable viewing. Have something you think we should see and read about tomorrow? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
More Browns LB fodder for your pre-pre season chatter box: “Over the past two years, time after time, we have watched Wimbley try to race around an offensive tackle. It’s too predictable, and therefore has become easy to defend. Wimbley has a total of nine sacks over the past two years, and from memory most of those came on plays where it was the quarterbacks fault for holding onto the ball too long, almost like a coverage sack.” [ChrisPokorny/Dawgs By Nature]
Windhorst has the scoop as always on the midnight deadline on LBJ Extension Watch ’09: “When the Cavs signed James in 2006, they reached out to him on the first day allowed, and several days later hosted a dinner for him at one of his favorite restaurants in Akron to formally present the offer. James considered it for a couple days and then agreed to take it. The Cavs might take the same tact this time, though the issues are not as clear-cut.” [Brian Windhorst/Cleveland Plain Dealer]
Some positive reviews of the Christian Eyenga from the VSL although the stats are not all that impressive: “Eyenga was the quickest guy on the floor when he was out there. The Cavs haven’t been looking for him at all this week — and he never calls for the ball — so it’s been hard to get a feel for the full range of his skills.” [Kevin Arnovitz/ESPN True Hoop]
My old little league coach David Lee Morgan got his book out on Jim Tressel and it got a pretty solid review in anticipation of a book signing he did yesterday in Columbus: “First of all, even if you’re not a Buckeyes football fan, it’s a must-read. Tressel, the coolest-looking collegiate head football coach on the sideline in America (just love those vest sweaters), has influenced and inspired numerous people, on and off the field.” [Ron Johnston/Marietta Times]
Should John Kuester even get comfy in Detroit? A basketball stat-man extraordinaire argues that he should just stick to renting: “But beyond that issue is the past history of Dumars. Dumars has fired successful coaches. He has been even quicker to fire unsuccessful coaches. This suggests that Kuester is not going to last in Detroit. Beyond what Dumars had done to coaches in the past, though, is the roster Dumars has assembled.” [Dave Berri/The Wages of Wins]
A forgotten reliever for the Columbus Clippers remains steady and hopes for a future spot in Cleveland: “With the second half now underway, Herrmann could be in line for a bullpen spot in Cleveland at some point this season and if not he will be in strong consideration for a roster spot in the offseason. For now his focus is on doing what he needs to do to finish himself off in order to be well prepared for that big league opportunity whenever it comes.” [Tony Lastoria/Indians Prospect Insider]
Just to close everything out, how about Tiger Woods missing the cut and Tom Watson being tied for the lead? Makes me just think about how much of a toss-up professional golf can be: “Woods could not say the same. He shot 74 for a five-over-par 145, and missed the cut in a major championship for just the second time as a professional. After 18 straight top 10s in stroke play, Woods, 33, left with questions and frustration.” [Larry Dorman/The New York Times]

How much playing time should Alex Hall get?
TampaBrett-Hall will sit behind the collection of journeymen backups (ex Jets) collected by Mangini. Book it.
I think if Wimbley struggles in the first 4-8 games, Hall will be in his spot. Book it.
