Heat Not Expected to Match Moon’s Offer Sheet

Written By:  Scott   |  Category:  Cleveland Cavaliers   |  Comments:   17

jamario-moon-rookie-gameAs Cavs followers eagerly await the possible matching of Jamario Moon’s offer sheet by his current team, the Miami Heat, the Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman comes through with two points that will make any pro-Moon fan pretty happy.

First, said offer sheet was actually signed late Friday.  While this means that we were all a bit late to the party, it also means that Miami’s seven-day window to match the offer is actually two days less than originally anticipated.  With the Lamar Odom rumors still out there, there is no doubt that the Heat would prefer to see what he will do prior to tying up any more money.  Alas, Pat Riley’s hands are essentially tied as he attempts to put difference-makers along side Dwyane Wade.

Winderman also claims that Riley’s reluctance to tie up money in non-core players past 2009 may force the Heat to bypass matching the offer sheet right out of the gate as the Cavaliers’ offer is required to be for at least two seasons (with one season guaranteed).  Matching the offer would also make it difficult for the Heat to trade Moon, as the Toronto Raptors did last season.  While the actual terms of the offer have yet to be disclosed, it is also noted that the Cavaliers can work on alternate contract options during this seven-day window.

Stay tuned…

Not that we planned on this guy being an offensive mastermind…but is there a field goal percentage stat that removes dunks? This kid seems to be a professor of dunkanomics, but how is his 12ft’er?

    Just curious.

eli – i think its decent but the cavs dont need this guy for his mid-range shot. thats a bonus. between Z, lebron, Mo, delonte – even JJ and jackson – they have enough of that. they need a guy that can finish at the rim hard and can defend. thats what moon brings to the table. how many guys on the cavs last year could legitimately finish hard at the hoop (other than lebron)? maybe AV? joe smith at times, but thats about it. moon brings that element to the team.

82games, but personal data is 2 years old.

    44.1%

    Which would be top 30

    Correction, here’s last years data

    eFG% on jumpers, 46.5%

You can’t compare that number with the list I linked too. Not sure how you would tell where he’s ranked. Mo Williams eFG was 54.5%, FWIW

anyone notice that he has numerous dunk highlights (see pic above & youtube videos) with players wearing wine and gold watching him?

I’m on board with this wholeheartedly. If this holds, in one way or another we will have subbed out Wallace for O’Neal, and Sasha and Wally for Parker and Moon. Beautiful.

Dr. Cleveland – that’s from the rookie game. No defense played in those things. (case in point, boobie’s 15 threes)

Does this essentially mean the Cavs will not persue re-signing Joe Smith?

  • 9. July 20, 2009

Jay – word is that Smith wants a three-year deal. Odds are that the team isn’t looking to extend him for that long.

Let’s not forget he was once a Harlem Globetrotter. I’m imagining an alley-oop to Moon who turns that into a mid-air ally-oop to James during a blowout over the Celtics with Rick Astley blaring over the PA.

Aaaaand, thanks for the unrealistic expectations, EZ.

His all-time dunk #4 seems to be against our #23. Who let that footage out?

Remember that Orlando wasn’t supposed to match the offer sheet for Gortat, so lets just wait and see what happens

@ mike: Just wondering when you saw Andy finish hard at the rim? For a 6′11 guy he is one of the worst above the rim players im the leauge. Not bashing AV but that ’s just not his game. He’s better off doing one of his Brazilian backhand layups rather than trying to stuff it hard b/c he most often gets swated when he tries the latter. (Joe Smith did have a real nice throwdown this year tho)

I’m wondering how this rotation is going to work. Seems like Kinsey will be released. I would rather give Green or J Williams his minutes anyway… they seem to have more BBIQ being from UNC plus I think Green is going to be a gamer.

The other option is Boobie is the odd man out. Then again don’t you kind
of have to play a guy making 4 mil on your squad just to shoot threes? Plus with LeBron AND Shaq demanding a double team this year, Boobie should have a whole lot of wide open looks and as long as he worries about knocking those down instead of trying to hit teardrop floaters over 7 footers he will be ok. I still have confidence in him. They’re just arent that many cold blooded shooters in the leauge that you can bring off your bench. Him n that Detroit game a couple years ago is still fresh in my mind. I’m willing to give him one last season to prove himself.

im not saying AV is a high flyer but he has thrown a few down. of anyone on hte team now not named lebron or shaq, hes probably the closest there is. hickson has potential. i recall a game against toronto 2 years back i think where AV threw down a rebound-dunk over chris bosh in the final second or so to basically ice the game.

[...] the Cavaliers is that the Heat are perhaps reluctant to spend any money right now. Furthermore, as Scott pointed out yesterday, even the Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman (the Heat fans’ version  of Brian Windhorst) wrote that [...]
