When you talk about Derek Anderson, what words come to mind? Take a few minutes and think.
Okay, time is up. Did “quick” cross your mind at all? Not likely, which is why Anderson has reportedly been working out a new facility in Oregon that specializes in increasing speed and agility. Why would the Browns want Anderson to add these elements to his repertoire?
Hashmarks’ James Walker has the goods:
As the Browns’ high-powered offense continues to evolve, second-year offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is installing more rollouts and screens into the playbook this season to give opponents different looks. That will require Anderson, a traditional pocket passer, to be more fleet of foot to execute the additional plays. He also has to work on his touch on short throws.
When I first read this, two things came to mind. 1) Recall that absurd scramble-turned run of Anderson’s that won the hearts of many Browns fans in an overtime game two seasons ago, and 2) the fact that we’re installing rollouts? Back in the Jeff Garcia/Charlie Frye days, rollouts were just the result of shoddy line work and a pass rush that just came entirely too soon. Now we’re actually using them on purpose.
Say what you want about one of the more non-athletic QBs being asked to increase his speed. After my doubts of last season were answered by Rob Chudzinksi, I’m going to have to just assume that this guy knows what he is doing.
However, one question I do have: Why isn’t Brady Quinn being given the same treatment? Say Anderson (gulp) goes down. Is our playbook all of a sudden cut in half?

Brady is pretty quick, I bet he could do rollouts no problem. I would never mistake him for a scrambling threat, but he is pretty athletic
Hopefully Anderson protects the ball when he is running better than what he is doing in that picture
In DA’s defense, it’s hard to protect the ball when crapping your pants…
Never underestimate Horse Balls’ kung–fu grip.
Its all good, I heard Romeo had Brady on a strict “jazzercise” program.
Brady’s off season work out schedule consisted of power lifting clipboards, sprint drills to the gatorade cooler, and most importantly time trials in making a cappuccino while learning to say “sure thing Mr. Anderson” in several languages.
So it seems both quarterbacks are addressing their roles on the team.

Don’t forget…he ends every workout with a myoplex…
Brady – “Now I’m done”
Seriously, that stuff must work because he is jacked. Somebody needs to tell him its ok to go a day without lifting
And here I thought it was the Subway sandwiches…
