While We’re Waiting… Terrelle Pryor Shines, Cavalier Hip-Hop, and the Browns Roster Bubble

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

Feet, don’t fail me now: “Center Mike Webster [WFNY edit: it was Brewster!!] told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that [Terrelle] Pryor ran the fastest 40 of any Buckeye: 4.33 seconds. That number, if true, would make Pryor not just the fastest Buckeye, but potentially the fastest quarterback ever. At this spring’s NFL scouting combine, Pryor would have tied for the second-fastest overall time, right behind wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey’s 4.30. Pryor would have finished more than two-tenths of a second ahead of the fastest quarterback at the combine, West Virginia’s Pat White, who ran a 4.55.” [Mark Hasty/NCAA FanHouse]

With the addition of Shaquille O’Neal coupled with the hip-hop emergance of Delonte West and Mo Williams, is there no longer room for Joe Smith’s rap career in Cleveland? [Brendan Bowers/Stepien Rules]

But how’s the decision making? “The good news for Ohio State fans is that one of the things [Gerry] DiNardo and [Howard] Griffith noted in a positive sense was the growth of sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor. “I think one of the things that stood out to me today is the fact that he’s putting his arm around young players,” said Griffith, the former Illinois running back. “He’s having fun, smiling. He’s explaining the game to those younger players, and that’s something that you don’t really get the chance to see all the time unless you come and watch practice. “When you watch that type of interaction with your quarterback, that tells you that he’s starting to become that leader, and that’s what they need him to be. He’s doing exactly what they need him to do.” [Jeff Svoboda/Scout.com]

It’s all about the playoffs: “Being realistic, which the team is trying to be, [Leon] Powe may not be able to contribute on a meaningful level until the end of the upcoming season.  Last year, the Cavs signed Joe Smith and gave him $1.2 million in early March. This move can turn into the same thing, a late-season injection of talent, just executed earlier. With the hope that a year from now he can be fully recovered and develop into a core player.” [Brian Windhorst/Plain Dealer]

Will the Browns keep four running backs? “With [James] Davis still out, RB Noah Herron continues to make a strong case for being on the final roster. I’m really starting to believe that Herron will make the team as the backup fullback/fourth running back. He’s not a bad player and he has some veteran experience. With RB Jerome Harrison also not practicing, RB Jamal Lewis and Herron got all the running back reps.” [Dawgs by Nature]

Figures… The whole post then goes on to question the ligitimacy of Pryors listed athleticism. We can’t expect them to get names right as well :)

I REALIZE THAT THIS IS A PRO-CLEVELAND WEBSITE, BUT MAKING FUN OF DEAD STEELERS IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE.

( Did I do that right with the caps? )

Right, and the notion of timing sprinters 40 times based on breakdown of a 100-meter race is legit too.

Aside from the differences in gear (sprinters wear essentially nothing – 4 oz spikes and a singlet), sprinters start is based off of a gun, that they react to. FB 40 times go from movement. I’d say that’s at worth somewhere in the range of .05-.1 second. There’s also completely different phases to sprinting a 40 and sprinting a 100. Guaranteed Bolt’s top-out speed is much faster than Pryor’s.

    That article is silly.

“Guaranteed Bolt’s top-out speed is much faster than Pryor’s.”

Well, yeah. His name is Bolt.

Wait, Bolt the sprinter or Bolt the dog from the movies? Either way, I bet the Bolts are faster.

All college players have their 40 times fudged, it may be intentional or it may be because of the inaccuracies that are inherent with using stopwatches. They don’t use stopwatches at the Combine, or at the Olympics, which is why their times are correct. Does anyone here really think Pryor is faster then Pat White? I don’t, and that is not a knock on Pryor
