What do the Buckeyes’ injuries mean –
August 18, 2009While We’re Waiting… Pick-Up with LeBron, Signing Danny Green, and Romeo Redux
August 19, 2009It isn’t every day that a Cleveland Browns home opener is on the national radar. But thanks to Brett Favre’s unwillingness to just give up already, he will likely man the Minnesota Vikings on opening day.
In what seemed to have been a tailspin over the last 24 hours, we heard rumors from Fox’s Jay Glazer that ultimately resulted in Favre getting a GPS unit imbedded into his skull where we can follow his flights and pen strokes. We now get word that the reported two-year deal with the Vikings (that will likely end up just like the “two-year deal” with the Jets) will net Favre $12 million. It will also net football fans outside of Minnesota a giant headache, that likely wont end until this time next season.
The gunslinger will get to test his arm against the not-so frightening defense of the Browns on week one. Favre is coming off of a span of games that saw him throw 10 interceptions in the final six weeks. In fact, there were only three games last season in which Favre did not throw a pick.
The Browns, on the other hand, not only look to break their string of consecutive week 1 losses, but they get to do so in front of a media circus headed by none other than Brett Favre. The spread leading into the game was Vikings (-3). We’ll have to see if this changes now that the cagey veteran is back under center.

This is great news. I hope that sniveling drama queen throws a bunch of picks, turns his teammates against each other, and gets his coach fired.
Again.
I have a great desire, and I believe the majority of the nation is with me, to see Shaun Rogers put Favre on the ground in bone crunching fashion.
This opener has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Ruining this disgrace’s re-comeback could quite possibly be the highlight of the year for the Browns.
i doubt even brett favre is old enough to have declined to the point of throwing INTs against our defense
Yeah, it’s not like he’s going up against GB’s second-stringers. Those guys dominate.
If the Browns start 1-0, end Favre’s season, and end up 1-15, I call it a successful season.
BRETT FAVRE!!! BRETT FAVRE!!! BRETT FAVRE!!!
He usually waits until the season matters before going doo doo in the bed. I would expect him to have a strong game (unfortunately).
IT WILL BE AN HONOR TO WATCH THE GREATEST QUARTERBACK OF OUR GENERATION PLAY HIS LAST [sic] SEASON OPENER. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE FANTASTIC COMMENTARY IN OUR OPENING GAME. HORAY!!
I wonder if his groupies will be there? I’m talking of course about Madden, King, Mortenson and Nichols. The Brett-Aides.
Did I hear Brett Farve?
TK NK.
My liver would not survive PTI today…
Does this mean that if Daboll tanks this year we get Childress as on O Coordinator?
@ Clown Baby – you forgot Peter King.
The reality is that Mangina is crapping his extra wide fat pants right about now at the thought of an opening day embarrassment by the person he pointed to as his excuse in NY. Sure, Favre is a wimpy diva who plays the system ad nausea……….but how much really does he need to have left in his tank to scorch Mangina and Rob “Gut” Ryan’s passive 34 defense?
Isis, there is also their excellent defense against our lackluster (at best offense) and their top 3 running game. I’m pretty sure we’re going to need to pull of a “Monday Night Against the Giants” miracle to not make Favre look like the messiah.
Can’t we just get embarassed with nobody watching? Darn you to heck, Brett Favre.
Eli……good points. Interesting to point out is that Green Bay is transitioning from a 43 to a 34 defense with new DC Dom Capers. How come under Romeo/Savage we kept being told it’s a 3 year transition process……….whereas GB just gets it done at a top level. Could it be coaching? (Dom Capers…….versus…………..).
Can ESPN or NBC commandeer this game into a SNF/MNF game this late in the game? Because I bet they’re trying like heck.
“HORAY!!”
Freudian typo.
@Denny : I’m assuming you are praying like crazy this doesn’t happen.
I’m pretty sure the NFL has a significant amount of pull in changing which game is the Sunday at 8 game, they’ve played pretty fast and loose with assigning that slot during the last few seasons.
No matter what, this game is going to get picked up in alot of markets and everyone is going to be able to watch and see how far along the New Browns (ie. New Coke) are.
I can’t help but write stuff like this. The ghost of last season is starting to creep back into my mind.
Woo Hoo!!!!! I might be able to watch this game on local TV (in Portland, OR)!!!! As for Farve, you can go away after I watch my lowly Brownies…
I don’t know whether I am more or less excited to open up CoverItLive for week 1 now. I am thinking less excited.
what is with Isis’s fetish with weights lately? been eating too many doughnuts and feeling guilty? everyone is either too fat or too slow…
I do agree with the sentiment however that I would LOVE to see Rogers fall on top of favre and break a few ribs…that would be excellent…
I go see the Browns play every year in Baltimore and this year is the first time ever I will be seeing them in Cleveland and of course.. it is the season opener.
I was totally psyched about just being at my first home Browns game ever but as much as it can be annoying I gotta admit.. kinda cool to see Brett Favre play our team. Here’s hoping we can pull out a miracle win.
Why is everybody haters? What does his playing with any other team got to do with ours?
No sir, I have him listed right after Madden. He’ll have on the tightest shirt, Pete’s coffee and his cellphone voicemail ready.
anyone watch “Shaq Vs”? tonight?
I actually thuoght it was funny – despite the cornyness
hurt the jerk!
I, peronally am happy. I get to see (one of) my favorite players in the history of the NFL throw for 300+ yards in person.
I don’t know why you guys are more worried now. They had AP before this and he’ll probably put up earth shattering numbers too. With the Williams bros not being suspended we’ll be lucky to keep this game within 30 points.
